A credit union champion is on the ballot in North Carolina.

State Rep. Jennifer Balkcom, a former credit union employee and longtime champion of our movement, is running for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District. From helping advance credit union priorities at the statehouse to understanding the industry firsthand, Balkcom has built strong ties to credit unions across the state.

This morning, Carolinas Credit Union League staff had the opportunity to attend the new Latino Community Credit Union New Bern Avenue branch in Raleigh, NC. They heard from CEO Vicky Garcia, board members, District C City Councilman Corey Branch, Department of Administration Secretary Gabriel J. Esparza, and members of the credit union who have been greatly impacted by LCCU's attention to "Community. Community. Community." This is such a great milestone for the credit union and highlights the work that credit unions do every day to serve their memberships!

Last week, several credit unions serving the Raleigh area had the opportunity to sit down with Congresswoman Deborah Ross to discuss the issues facing credit unions and how today’s political environment can impact our ability to continue providing top-notch financial services to members.
