Humane Society Columbia

Humane Society Columbia Our mission is to end animal cruelty, neglect and overpopulation. The Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (HSPCA) is a Section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1902 to address animal welfare issues in central South Carolina.

Since its inception, The Humane Society focused on ending animal cruelty, neglect and abuse. In the early '80s The Humane Society began to address animal overpopulation by offering low cost spay/neuter surgeries. The Humane Society is governed by a Board of Directors made up of community volunteer leaders and operates entirely on private donations and from the revenues generated by our low cost Spay/Neuter Clinic. The Humane Society receives no public funding. If you would like to help support the work of The Humane Society, please visit our website to make a donation. The Humane Society employs a dedicated staff of hardworking professionals bent on achieving our mission to end animal cruelty and overpopulation, but hard work and dedication alone are not enough. The Humane Society needs continued support to bring awareness of the issues we face to the general public and to aid in our capacity to take action against animal overpopulation and incidents of animal neglect and abuse. Only through a cooperative effort can The Humane Society and the community to which it serves reach a solution to our region’s animal welfare issues.

Mission: The mission of The Humane Society is to end animal cruelty, neglect and overpopulation. The Humane Society is one of many animal welfare groups in the Southeast, all of which, play a vital role in addressing the animal welfare issues we face. While the resolution to each of these issues is a worthy endeavor, The Humane Society identifies with only two: animal cruelty and animal overpopulation. The mistreatment of animals and the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals are unacceptable and must be put to an end. The Humane Society strives to achieve its mission everyday by: • Educating the public on the humane treatment of animals. • Investigating complaints and working to resolve instances of animal abuse and neglect. • Operating a low cost spay/neuter clinic to help reduce the number of unwanted animals. The vision of The Humane Society is to help make the Midlands a community where there are no abused, neglected or unwanted animals and also a community where all healthy pets have good, caring homes.
