As we celebrate National Adoption Month, the South Carolina Heart Gallery Foundation wants to remind families that we can all open channels of communication with youth. Engaging with teens can provide surprising and insightful results, as they saw when interviewing Shakia D. She wanted to share her artistic skills in her Heart Gallery photo profile. 🎨

With balanced, political discourse becoming more rare in recent times, a parent or caregiver's initial reflex can be to shield their children from election news. Child care not associated with spread of COVID-19, Yale study finds

A study published in the journal Pediatrics found that exposure to child care was not associated with an elevated risk of spreading COVID-19 from children to adults, provided the child care programs took multiple safety measures — including disinfecting, handwashing, symptom screening, social distancing, mask-wearing, and limiting group size — and were located in communities where the spread of COVID-19 was contained.
https://news.yale.edu/2020/10/16/child-care-not-associated-spread-covid-19-yale-study-finds?fbclid=IwAR112qcCgryatrHJdnxlTln-h4osgHAi-T27HcqXWxcesaeNJXB7YSvp9hM

The findings show child care programs that remained open throughout the pandemic did not contribute to the spread of the virus to providers.

Thriving Communities Build Strong Families – Children's Trust of South Carolina

Building a thriving community is like assembling a jigsaw puzzle. It takes time, hard work and collaboration to turn an assortment of pieces into a beautiful picture. When everyone works together – community organizations, schools, government agencies and businesses – communities have the resources they need to build strong families. When families are strong and supported, children are able to be their best. Children’s Trust, South Carolina’s statewide leader in the prevention of child abuse and neglect, brings together individuals, organizations, and community and state leaders to support the ongoing work of prevention that enables communities to flourish.

Fostering Great Ideas

Today on #FosterFridayLive with Fostering Great Ideas, foster parent Meagan will share some of her personal experiences with foster care. Meagan has been fostering since 2016. She was inspired to foster because of her own lived experience in foster care as a teen where she felt misunderstood and unwelcome.

Hello, FRIDAY! We are so happy to see you! We all know that Friday means Foster Friday Live over on the Fostering Great Ideas page! Hooray!

Make sure to 👍 Fostering Great Ideas so that you'll never miss Foster Friday Live content!

And today we are thrilled to have foster parent Meagan joining us for #FosterFridayLive to share some of her personal experiences with foster care. Meagan has been fostering since 2016. She was inspired to foster because of her own lived experience in foster care as a teen where she felt misunderstood and unwelcome.

A child or youth enters our homes with their own beautiful culture, history, and traditions - even if we do not know what these are or understand them. It is not the child's job to abandon what they know; it is our job to lean in and embrace the child fully for who they are.

Tell us in the comments what YOU are learning about raising a child of a different race. What has been exciting? What has been challenging?
