This story documents the importance of my sponsoring and Maryland passing our Maryland Voting Rights Act!

After a major Supreme Court ruling, state-level voting rights acts and redistricting strategies in Democratic-led states are among the limited ways left for protecting racial-minority voters' power.

This will be a big change regarding police stops. It follows the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen.
According to the article, "Police in Maryland can no longer stop and search someone solely based on their suspicion that the person is carrying a gun."

Police in Maryland can no longer stop and search someone solely based on their suspicion that the person is carrying a gun, the state’s full appeals court ruled in a sweeping opinion that law enforcement agencies worry could curtail police practices statewide.

The tone deafness of this comment frustrates me. At a time when our federal courts have greenlit states across the country to disenfranchise large swaths of their populations, we have to spend time addressing this type of thinking in Baltimore County. This council was one of the reasons I championed this legislation.
Sheila Ruth, District 44B Delegate is correct! And I do not believe it is rocket science Baltimore County Councilman Mike Ertel it really is simple, don't draft maps that violate the law.

Proud that District 44 commissioner,
Lisa Di**le, along with District 10's Commissioner fought to send up Pete Fitzpatrick 's name to represent the District. To essentially disenfranchise this entire community at this critical time when we are about to select a Superintendent is unacceptable.

As the Sun noted "Throughout the session, Di**le repeatedly brought up concerns over representation for the people of District 1.

“I would rather have 15% of that population have representation than 0% of the people in that community have representation. I think as a board, we owe it to all the areas of Baltimore County to make sure their voices are heard,” Di**le said. “Someone needs to go up.”'

Gov. Wes Moore is stepping into Baltimore County’s ongoing school board vacancy saga, ordering the nomination commission to reverse a controversial decision.
