A skilled nursing care facility of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) Office of Mental Health in Columbia, South Carolina.

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA ®) will hold its regular re-assessment of the Public Safety Division of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Office of Mental Health February 17 through 19, 2026.

As part of the re-assessment, agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments via an online feedback portal, https://cimrs2.calea.org/919.
CALEA accredited law enforcement agencies must comply with professional standards in the following areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. To maintain accreditation, law enforcement agencies must undergo re-accreditation every four years to ensure continued compliance with CALEA standards.

Verification by the Assessment Team that the BHDD OMH Public Safety meets CALEA standards as part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of law enforcement excellence. The BHDD OMH Division of Public Safety has been CALEA accredited since 2018.

Law enforcement practitioners from similar agencies in other states will review written materials, interview individuals, and observe BHDD OMH facilities to observe compliance practices. Once the assessors complete a review of the division, they will report to the full Commission, which will then decide if BHDD OMH Public Safety will be granted re-accreditation.

The BHDD OMH Division of Public Safety is the law enforcement entity for the BHDD OMH and has statewide jurisdiction. The Division employs sworn officers and has specific responsibilities for coordinating law enforcement, fire and life safety, and security programs within the Office, and also performs as BHDD OMH first responders, as necessary. The Division enforces state laws and protects BHDD OMH property, patients, employees, and visitors.

The Frank L. Roddey Pavilion of SCDMH’s C. M. Tucker Nursing Care Center has achieved a 5-star rating, the highest attainable, from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). According to CMS, only the top 10% of the 15,800 nursing homes in the Medicare and Medicaid programs nationwide will receive a 5-star rating.

Nursing homes with 5-star ratings are considered to have much above average quality than nursing homes with a 1-star rating. The overall star rating for nursing homes allows residents, their families, and caregivers to compare nursing homes by giving a “snapshot” of each facility’s quality of care.

Congratulations to all Roddey staff, who have worked tirelessly to reach this significant achievement. The 5-star rating represents the superior quality of services that are provided to our residents!

In order to keep our residents safe, Tucker suspended visits back in March. We found creative ways to help our folks stay in touch with their families and loved ones, like phone calls, video chats, and so forth. But we wanted to do more.

Recently, we launched a new initiative - Family Distancing Visits - so that residents could see their loved ones in person while staying safe.

Families contact staff to coordinate a date and time for a visit, during which they drive to the front porch and a staffer escorts the resident to meet them and visit from a distance of 6 feet, to ensure safe physical distancing. These visits have been a hit; families literally line up to participate.

This has meant so much to residents and their families (and to our staff, too). Here are a few photos from Family Distancing visits at Stone Veterans Pavilion. 🇺🇸

Thank you to our residents, families, staff, and leadership for making this possible!

***PINNED POST - June 10, 2020 - VISITATION UPDATE***

NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) and TUCKER NURSING CARE CENTER - STONE VETERANS HOME & RODDEY PAVILION

Following guidance from the Centers from Disease Control, SC Department of Health and Environmental Control, and SCDMH’s Long-term Care Medical Team, Tucker Nursing Care Center is suspended resident visits, except for end of life visits in March.

In May, Tucker developed a policy and procedure for "Family Distancing Visits", wherein family members can drive to the facility and visit with their loved one from a safe physical distance:

- Family schedules a visit with the appropriate staff of Tucker.
- At the appointed time, residents are escorted to the front porch by a staff member to visit with their families from a position of 6 feet apart to ensure adherence to recommended physical distancing guidelines.

To learn more or schedule a visit, contact the facility:
Roddey - (803) 737-5347
Stone - (803) 737-5371

At Tucker Nursing Care Center, procedures are in place AT ALL TIMES to prevent/address contagious illnesses among our residents and staff. However, because COVID-19 is a novel virus, SCDMH’s Long-term Care leadership and hospital administrators continue to closely monitor developments and updates from the CDC and DHEC to ensure all necessary procedures are in place.

We will send follow-up correspondence to families if and when the visitation restrictions have been changed or lifted completely.

The staff of CM Tucker's Stone Veterans Pavilion are proud to serve those who served our nation. That's why they work tirelessly during the best of times to ensure quality care for our residents.

That's also why, when Covid-19 came, they didn't hesitate to take all necessary measures to keep the vets and their coworkers safe and healthy.

Whether you provide medical or nursing care, activity therapy, administrative services, maintenance services, or a combination of these tasks, Stone Pavilion is grateful for you and proud of you.

Pictured are just a few members of the team that makes Stone a 5-star facility ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services!
