Our Fresh Start Recovery Center in Indianapolis is moving to a new location, and we need YOU to help us get the new space ready to welcome the women and families we serve.

Volunteers will help make beds, arrange decor, organize spaces, and tackle some light cleaning alongside our team.

The Columbus community showed up for Operation Backpack®! 685 backpacks is incredible. We're so grateful to the Columbus Metropolitan Library for their year-after-year support in making sure local kids get the tools they need to succeed.

We get to send 685 BACKPACKS to kids in central Ohio this year ❤️

Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies at the library this summer!

From here, the backpacks will be distributed to local children in need by Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana through their Operation Backpack program.

We had the honor of meeting and “talking shop” with an incredible team from Humana, including Jim Rechtin, CEO and President of Humana, and Anna Dunn, Medicaid Plan President, Indiana.

Our conversation centered on an issue we care deeply about: ensuring families affected by substance use disorder have access to the health, healing, and recovery supports they need to thrive.

We were grateful to tour Grimes Family Center together and discuss the critical importance of continuity of care—from residential treatment, through recovery housing, and ultimately toward independence. When that continuum is strong, families have a greater opportunity to achieve long-term stability, improved health outcomes, and lasting recovery. And perhaps most importantly, it helps families stay together.

Investing in women, children, and families impacted by substance use disorder is an investment in healthier, stronger communities for generations to come. We’re grateful for partners who are willing to come together, share ideas, challenge the status quo, and “talk shop” about what it takes to create meaningful, lasting impact.

- Judge Sara J. Harper Village hosted its Second Annual Wellness Day!

This event is dedicated to celebrating the wellness, strength, and resilience of the women veterans we serve.

Mrs. Constance Hagg (pictured in grey dress) and Kimberlee Trumbo (pictured in teal dress), daughters of the late Judge Sara J. Harper, provided a deeply personal and powerful connection to the woman whose name and legacy continue to represent strength, leadership, service, and opportunity to the women veterans we serve.

Special thanks to American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 214, Department of Ohio , for sharing gifts and facilitating a wellness and resource table with positive journaling, stress-relief activities, gratitude cards, informational resources, door prizes, and other wellness-focused activities.

Sincere appreciation as well to the Cleveland Section Of The National Council Of Negro Women for providing food and a beautiful celebration cake, helping us create a warm and memorable experience for our residents and guests.

We want to let everyone know how much we appreciate School Employees Retirement System of Ohio (SERS) for being a long time supporter of Operation Backpack®. This year, they donated 151 backpacks! Thank you for your continuing generosity.

Every year, SERS staff wholeheartedly supports the Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana's 🎒campaign.

Operation Backpack ensures students in the community are prepared with all the supplies they need to succeed during the school year.

Our staff donated both money and fully-stocked backpacks, for a total of 151 packs for this year’s campaign.

We get by with a little help from our friends! Thank you to Oswald Companies and a wonderful family for giving their time to remove safety pins and hangers from a recent donation of children's clothing.

This allows our thrift team to quickly distribute these pieces to stores in Central and Northeast Ohio. Our stores support our mission to offer hope, restore dignity, and transform the lives of veterans, individuals, and families in need.
