Bartholomew County 4-H Fair, Inc

Bartholomew County 4-H Fair, Inc Join us for the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair!
The fairgrounds were originally located on 25th Street which is now the Fair Oaks Mall. In 1956 a group of community leaders decided it was time to have a fairgrounds that was operated and maintained by an elected group of people who were interested in improving the conditions for the 4-Hers and businesses. On May 7th, 1956 a group of citizens met and decided to form a corporate body, later called the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair, Inc. The first elected board of directors was elected at this meeting. They were Carl Fox, Martha Doup, Perry Doup, Harry Embry, Henry Hoevener, Walter Miller, B. Parker Newsom, Sr., Wendel Shireman, and J. Perry Thompson. The corporate papers were officially signed November 15, 1956 and a 99 year lease was signed November 24, 1956 between the County Commissioners and the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair, Inc. The ground was previously used as a county farm located at 200 S. and St. Rd. 11 and is now the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair, Inc. fairgrounds. The first fair was held on July 21-26, 1958. How blessed the community is for this project to continue!

Purdue University's 4-H Fair Exhibition Social Distancing Requirements and Considerations.

05/19/2020

After much thought and discussion, the 2020 Bartholomew County 4-H Fair will not be held in person due to our concerns that this would jeopardize the safety of our 4-H members and volunteers. While the Indiana Back on Track plan would allow gatherings over 250 people five days before our fair was planned to start, the challenge is our ability to be ready and meet all of Purdue University’s guidelines.

With requirements to enforce social distancing, full Personal Protective equipment including face coverings, temperature checks, and comprehensive tracking of everyone who is on the fairgrounds, the Fair Board felt that it would be impossible to comply with requirements and ensure safety of those in attendance.

We will be holding a virtual fair for all 4-H projects. More information will be forthcoming from the Purdue Extension - Bartholomew County Office.

We recognize that this is a tough year and not what we all anticipated or wanted. Please help us make this a positive experience for all.

The Night Owl Country Band certainly aims to share its music, from originals to cover tunes. But it has also always aimed to share its heart for a range of local and national causes such as the Wounded Warrior Project each fall. Or the recent benefit it did for Willow Leaves of Hope. Now, amid

Please support the 2020 Bartholomew County 4-H Fair by bidding to sponsor a Day or a Street. After the cancellation of the Community Dinner where we usually have this auction, we are very thankful to Mensendiek's Auction Service, as we now have this online at this link:

http://www.auctionsandrealestate.com/cgi-bin/mndetails.cgi?mensendiek10

Sponsorship will help support improvements at the fair. Sponsors will also receive:
- One weekly parking pass and multiple daily passes
- Street sponsors will have a street sign posted during Fair Week
- Day sponsors will have their name placed on marquee on the particular day they have sponsored. (The marquee is located by Indiana 11 and Spear Road.)
- Day sponsors will also have a hospitality tent, located in front of the fair office for the particular day they have sponsored. This tent can be used for advertising, for greeting fair guests, sharing a gift/reminder that they are the day’s sponsor, etc.

PLEASE NOTE: Purdue will be announcing a decision on Friday, May 15, regarding whether 4-H events can occur in July, so we may not be able to have the fair as usual. We will announce any decisions about changes to the fair on this page next week before the deadline of the Auction on Friday, May 22. So this may shift from actual day/streets and may evolve more to just supporting the fair. We will do everything we can to advertise/thank our supporters.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day

National POW/MIA Recognition Day will be on 09-20-2019.

In honor of the special day of recognition, a ceremony is planned behind the Courthouse at the Bartholomew County Memorial for Veterans on Friday, September 20, 2019 starting at 6:30 PM.

The purpose of having this event is to increase awareness within the community that every year, the third Friday in September is "National POW/MIA Recognition Day.

Where: Bartholomew County Memorial for Veterans, behind the Courthouse, in Columbus, IN.

When: September 20, 2019 at 6:30 pm

Why:
To give the community an opportunity to take time to honor and remember those who have given so much for our freedom. Over 82,000 Military Personnel are still unaccounted for since WWII. Their families still wait for their return. Remembering will help ensure that the search for those still missing in action will continue and that one day another family will find closure and another soldier will come home to rest beside those they loved.

We were blessed to have your enthusiasm and support during the fair. Thank you!

What a wonderful week for these four ladies. I was blessed to have a front row seat to their kindness, humility, willingness to run to a friends side when she needed them, and love shown to all the kiddos wanting their attention. Even through long, hot days there was never a cross word or negative attitude. They came together and complemented each other so well. Thank you to Annie Romine, Trina Brumley, all the queen contest volunteers, Elisabeth Smith and to all the fairboard members who welcomed these girls and encouraged them throughout the week. I’m not sure you could have selected four better ladies to represent our fair and 4H program. Lots of love to Mackenzie Smith, Riley Coers, Chloe Sims and Claudia Sims.
