Among drivers between the ages of 18 and 34 who were killed in crashes over the Labor Day holiday in 2024, 40% of those drivers were drunk, with BACs of .08 or above.

The financial impact from impaired-driving crashes is devastating, crashes in which alcohol was the cause resulted in $57 billion in economic costs.

During the 2024 Labor Day holiday (6 p.m. September 1 - 5:59 a.m. September 5), there were 505 crash fatalities nationwide.

Of those people, 170 (34%) were killed in crashes that involved at least one alcohol-impaired driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or above.

The Kansas VINE system is a service through which victims of crime can use the telephone, internet, or mobile app to search for information regarding the custody status of their offender and to register to receive telephone, e-mail, text, or in-app notifications when the offender’s custody status changes.

August may already be moving right along, but we realized our July 2026 Activity Snapshot never made it to Facebook! Better late than never. 😊

July was another busy month for the men and women of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. These numbers represent just a small part of the work happening every day—both out in the community and behind the scenes.

Thank you to our deputies, dispatchers, corrections staff, investigators, evidence and front office staff, and everyone else who keeps things moving each day.

🐾💙 HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY! 💙🐾

Today we’re celebrating two very special four-legged members of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office — K9 Ace & K9 Friday! 🐕‍🦺⭐

🐾 K9 Ace is a German Shepherd who will be celebrating his 4th birthday this December!

🐾 K9 Friday is our youngster! At just 1 year old, Friday is a Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix with plenty of energy and enthusiasm to go around.

These two may have different personalities and experience levels, but they have something important in common: they’re more than just dogs. They’re partners, protectors, coworkers, and part of our CKSO family.

Today, they’ve officially requested that National Dog Day be observed with extra treats, belly scratches, and absolutely no discussion about how much they shed. 😂 🦴🐾
