A big congratulations to CPD Sgt. Morefield for receiving this year’s Patriot Award from the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS). Sgt. Morefield oversees the Digital Forensics Unit at Columbus Police and was honored by ODPS for his remarkable service to the Columbus community at the annual Ohio Patriot Awards Ceremony, held in recognition of the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

On September 7, victims stated that an individual was trespassing in the backyard of a residence in the 100 block of W. 8th Ave. and appeared to be peeking into the windows.

The victims provided a video which showed the suspect trespassing in their fenced-in backyard, looking into their windows, and ma********ng. The victims stated the suspect has done this at least four separate times in the past.

Officers were able to identify the suspect as Michael Taylor, age 40, based on past police contact, and warrants were filed for his arrest. Several witnesses also identified Mr. Taylor. He was arrested on September 10 and charged with Public Indecency, Voyeurism, and Criminal Trespassing.

Detectives are requesting that anyone who recognizes this individual from previous incidents, or incidents that have yet to be reported, to contact the Columbus Division of Police Sexual Assault Unit at 614-645-4701.

Today, we remember detective Abe Kleeman: End of Watch –September 15th, 1899. On September 10, 1899, Detective Kleeman and Detective George Gaston were involved in a shootout with Charles Dumont. Detective Kleeman was shot during the exchange of gunfire.

Detective Kleeman, badly wounded, died on September 15th, 1899. He had served with the Division for 10 years.

On April 5, at approximately 7:35 p.m., officers were dispatched to Interstate 70 Westbound at E. Livingston Ave. for a three-vehicle accident. Multiple juveniles were transported to a local hospital for serious injuries sustained from the crash.

On September 9, a Franklin County Grand Jury indicted 29-year-old Shamiyah Abbington for Aggravated Vehicular Assault, Vehicular Assault, OVI, and Endangering Children out of this incident.

Today, we honor the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attack on our country, our freedom, and our safety. We remember the innocent lives lost as first responders ran toward danger in acts of courage and selflessness.

The Columbus Division of Police will conduct a public auction of unclaimed property in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code. The sale will be held at the Property Room Facility, 724 E. Woodrow Avenue, Columbus, OH 43217, on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Doors open for viewing at 9:00 a.m., with the auction beginning promptly at 10:00 a.m.
