🚧 Heads up, Mt. Pleasant! 🚧

Beginning Monday, June 22, crews with the North Carolina Department of Transportation will start a cross-pipe replacement project on N.C. 73 near Barringer Street.

After the morning commute, 73 will be reduced to one lane, with automated flaggers directing traffic through the work zone while crews complete the pipe replacement.

Weather permitting, traffic is expected to return to a normal two-lane pattern by midweek.

⚠️ Please use caution in the area and allow extra travel time, as delays are possible.

💛 Midland Juneteenth celebration
Saturday, June 20 | Ebenezer AME Zion Church | noon to 5 p.m. | Food, vendors, giveaways, music and more!

💚 The annual Concord Juneteenth Celebration is not taking place this year, but plans to return in 2027. Harrisburg held festivities on Thursday!

Statement on Juneteenth proclamation:

The following statement is being shared on behalf of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners.

During Monday night’s Regular Meeting, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution recognizing June 19 as Juneteenth.

This approval showed majority support for celebrations of the holiday locally and across the country.

As stated in the proclamation, the majority of the board recognizes that the day “represents the effective end of chattel slavery in the United States and symbolizes the triumph of freedom, justice and the American ideal that all men are created equal.”

In addition to Juneteenth, the board believes in recognizing the many celebrations that commemorate freedom in the United States.

Any comment about the dissenting vote on the proclamation should come from the individual who cast that vote.

In case you missed it, Cabarrus County Commissioners voted on Monday (June 15) to adopt the FY27 budget, which takes effect July 1.

The budget maintains the current tax rate of 57.6 cents per $100 of assessed value. With that, owners of a $361,120 home (the median single-family assessed home value in Cabarrus) would pay $2,080.05 a year in County property tax.

‼️ Important transportation update from City of Kannapolis - Community News and City of Concord Government.

City of Kannapolis - Community News and City of Concord Government have reached an agreement to maintain all Rider Transit routes and stops for the 2026-2027 Fiscal Year. The agreement comes after months of negotiation and will preserve essential transportation services for residents while city leaders continue to collaborate on ways to enhance system efficiencies.

After a months-long national search, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved John Eller as the next county manager.

Eller’s appointment begins on July 27, following approval by Cabarrus commissioners at the June 15 Regular Meeting.

With more than 26 years of experience in public administration and government consulting, Eller was selected for his extensive background, proven leadership and commitment to providing innovative services, according to Board of Commissioners Chair Laura Lindsey.
