SEA / SEIU Local 1984 Labor union representing public- and private-sector workers across N.H. The SEA affiliated with the Service Employees’ International Union in 1984.

SEA/SEIU Local 1984 represents more than 10,000 public- and private-sector employees across the Granite State. First formed in 1940 as a social organization, the SEA won passage of New Hampshire’s Public Employee Labor Relations Law in 1975. Since then, the union has negotiated hundreds of contracts with state, county, municipal and private-sector employers. With 2.1 million members, SEIU is the fastest-growing union in the Americas. SEIU values all opinions and comments. However, it reserves its right to remove profane, harassing, racist, or sexually explicit language at its discretion.

ICYMI — our union continued our tradition of handing out MREs “Meals Ready to Eat” at the 22nd Annual New Hampshire Veteran Stand Down with Harbor Care. SEA / SEIU 1984 joined more than 50 other vendor and partner agencies — who together offer housing and emergency shelter help, healthcare screenings, employment counseling, VA benefits assistance, legal advice, and free basic care supplies — along with our nostalgic MREs.

As always, we welcomed everyone to our table and were honored to be visited by U.S. Rep. Pappas, Rep. Goodlander and Manchester Mayor Jay Ruais.

This year’s event had a more celebratory atmosphere — two years after launching an intensive joint initiative with Mayor Ruais, Harbor Care, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the city of Manchester is now housing veterans faster than new cases emerge (functional zero).

We all have to keep working to address all homelessness, but we’re happy to report New Hampshire’s Queen City is making serious progress!
