Remnants of Tropical Storm Edouard are still in the region. Today and tomorrow with daytime heating we can see additional thunderstorms develop. These storms could produce heavy downpours at times.

Montgomery County remains under a flood watch through 7pm today.

If any warnings are issued we will provide updates as warranted.

We’re starting to see some banding form and are watching this for any additional strengthening with afternoon heating because of the flash flooding that can rapidly occur. We are still under a flood watch until tomorrow morning.

As Tropical Storm Edouard moves out of our area and the Flood Warning for eastern Montgomery County has been lifted, our office is downgrading its activation posture to Level 3 (Increased Readiness).

We will remain weather aware and continue monitoring conditions. Daytime heating may produce additional thunderstorms that wrap around the remnants of Edouard; however, no significant impacts are currently expected in Montgomery County. We will share any important updates as necessary.

We are also closely monitoring the catastrophic flooding occurring northeast and east of our county. Should neighboring jurisdictions request assistance, Montgomery County stands ready to support our partners and the affected communities.

Tropical Storm Edouard update 9/2/2026 @ 8:30am:

Tropical Storm Edouard has been downgraded overnight to a tropical depression. The center of circulation is just east of Groveton and continuing to move off to the northwest.

Overnight rainfall was minimal overall to nonexistent for most of the county. A flash flood warning was issued early this morning for portions of East Montgomery County, including Splendora. That warning will expire at 9:30. The feeder band responsible for that heavy rain has since moved at of the area.

The National Weather Service says there is a possibility of some additional feeder band development today over our area so the flood watch is still in effect.

Our neighbors in Liberty and Hardin counties received 10+ inches and are facing flash flooding in many places.

While we could use a really good soaking we are thankful not to have seen any significant flooding. Rain chances remain in the forecast through tomorrow.

Tropical Storm Edouard is approaching landfall at the Texas Louisiana border and is expected to generally continue moving northwest overnight into tomorrow.

Our office just concluded a weather briefing with the National Weather Service and the primary concern at this point is heavy rain that will occur overnight and early tomorrow morning.

Rainfall totals of 3-5 inches are expected east of I-45 with the NWS saying isolated amounts of 10-15 inches can not be ruled out for those areas where wrap around feeder bands set up and train over the same areas. Exactly where that will occur is still uncertain.

Rainfall west of I45 is expected in the 1-3 inch ranges. With the caveat that wrap around feeder bands could drive up those estimates for the entire county including west of I-45.

Because of the uncertainty the National Weather Service has placed all of Montgomery County in a slight risk for excessive rainfall today and tomorrow. Portions of the county east of I-45 are in a moderate risk for excessive rainfall through today.

As a reminder the entire county is under a flood watch until 7pm tomorrow September 2nd.

Please stay weather aware and avoid any high water on roadways. Remember to turn around don't drown.

Additional updates will be pushed out as needed our office is activated and will be staffed overnight.
