The International Board for Specialty Certification (IBSC) has been asked to determine the viability of a Board Certification for In-Hospital Paramedics. This would include all paramedics that are working at or above their paramedic scope in a hospital setting. Know how to safely respond to emergency vehicle traffic. Emergency vehicles include:

🚑 Ambulances
🚒 Firetrucks
🚓 Police vehicles

If you see an emergency vehicle with its lights and sirens on, approaching you from behind, you should:

✅ yield the right-of-way
✅ drive to the right-hand edge of or curb of the roadway clear of any intersection
✅ stop and remain still until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed.

Failing to follow these guidelines can cost you money and even jail time.

Remember, don't panic! Move to the right when it is safe to do so. If an accident occurs in front of an emergency vehicle enroute to it's initial call, it is required to stop and render aid. This delays life-saving care to the initial patient, as another, farther away unit has to be dispatched. Stay safe and mindful out there.

"As EMS arrived, the caller unexpectedly jumped into the driver’s seat of the ambulance and sped away from the scene."

In Texas, this is the fourth stolen ambulance since June. Additional events have occurred in Quitman, Corpus Christi, and El Paso.

A person who had called to request a Brownsville Fire/EMS ambulance ended up hopping into the driver's seat and stealing the ambulance

“Historically, response time performance has been the primary measure used to assess the quality of an EMS system.

However, response times have not generally been associated with improved patient outcomes...and the reliance on response time performance prevents communities from evaluating other EMS system quality measures that have greater significance for patient care and outcomes,” states Dr. Doug Kupas, the primary author of the joint statement.

The groups recommend prioritizing evidence-based clinical, operational and financial measures over response times
