HCSO DEPUTIES ARREST 16-YEAR-OLD LINKED TO VIOLENT ONLINE SOCIAL NETWORK AND EXTORTION
The Horry County Sheriff’s Office has a serious warning for parents after learning about a disturbing trend among teens with local implications.

Deputies received a cyber tip from the social gaming platform, Discord, about possible school violence, and sought help from FBI - Columbia. Further investigation revealed exploitation tied to a violent online network called “764.” Deputies identified a 16-year-old student linked to the exchanges and took them into custody.

In a 2025 Public Service Announcement, Federal authorities warned these networks target minors and other vulnerable individuals. The “764” group uses threats, blackmail, and manipulation to coerce minors into producing, sharing, or live-streaming acts of self-harm, animal cruelty, s*xually explicit acts, and/or su***de. The footage is then circulated among members of the network. Members will often threaten to post the footage online or send the footage to the victim’s family and friends to continue the extortion and maintain control.

“This is one of the most disturbing cases I’ve seen in my eight years as a child s*x crimes investigator. The ages of the defendant and the victim, and the material generated as a result of extortion was both extreme and unsettling,” said Lt. Tim Troxell.

The FBI reports that victims are typically between the ages of 10 and 17, with children experiencing mental health challenges — including depression and eating disorders — considered particularly vulnerable.

We urge parents to educate their children and closely monitor their online activity. This includes ensuring appropriate parental controls are in place and being aware of the apps their children use. Parents should also initiate a conversation if their child is communicating with someone they do not know or recognize.

DEPUTIES ARREST MYRTLE BEACH MAN AFTER HE ATTEMPTS TO RUN FOR THE SECOND TIME
Horry County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a wanted man early Wednesday after he attempted to flee for the second time in seven months.

Billy Jack Hanna, 55, was originally arrested Oct. 7, 2025, following a multi-agency chase that began in Myrtle Beach and ended in the Cherry Grove area. He was served with an outstanding warrant for obtaining goods under false pretenses and charged with grand larceny and failure to stop for blue lights.

After Hanna failed to appear in court May 19, 2026, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. At approximately 5:30 a.m. May 27, deputies located Hanna getting into a vehicle on Church Street in Myrtle Beach. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but Hanna refused to pull over, leading to a brief pursuit.

Hanna eventually returned to a residence on Church Street, where deputies took him into custody. He was transported to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center and charged with failure to stop for blue lights (again).

⭐️ MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND WRAP-UP ⭐️
While many were traveling, enjoying cookouts, or relaxing by the pool this Memorial Day weekend, our office remained hard at work serving communities across the Grand Strand.

Deputies were stationed throughout Myrtle Beach, Atlantic Beach, and North Myrtle Beach, ensuring a strong and visible presence. Over the weekend, we responded to numerous calls in support of partner agencies, including a shooting in Myrtle Beach and a crowd-related incident in Atlantic Beach. Our team also safely removed two fi****ms, arrested a wanted individual out of Marion County, arrested an individual for assault on an officer, and investigated three traffic collisions.

From Friday through Sunday, 84 individuals were transported to J. Reuben Long Detention Center, where our Booking Department continued the process with professionalism and care.

When our area sees an influx of visitors, it truly takes a team effort to maintain safety and order. We’re grateful for the dedication of our personnel and the support of our public safety partners who stepped up alongside us.
