“Well now,” Wally says, settlin’ back in his rocking chair, “I’ve been hearin’ a lot of talk around town lately about that proposed hotel down by the river.”
He takes a slow sip of his coffee.
“Seems like just about everybody’s got an opinion on it - and I reckon that’s a good thing. Means folks care about Conway.”
Wally nods. “From what I understand, they’re talkin’ about a hotel along the Waccamaw… somewhere near the Riverwalk. More folks comin’ to visit, maybe stay a while, maybe see what makes this place special.”
“But I’ve also heard the concerns too,” he adds. “Parking, traffic, how it might change the look and feel of downtown… and whether it still feels like the Conway we all know.”
He looks out toward the river for a moment.
“You know, Conway’s always been a town that grows… just a little at a time. Not all at once. And every time somethin’ new comes along, folks stop and ask — ‘Is this good for us?’”
Wally smiles. “Truth is, there’s not always a simple answer.”
“Some folks see opportunity — more people discoverin’ Conway, more life downtown, more reasons for folks to stay a little longer.”
“Others see concern — wantin’ to protect what makes this place feel like home.”
He lifts his mug. “And I reckon both of those come from the same place… carin’ about this town.”
Wally leans back. “I’ve learned over the years, the best thing a community can do isn’t just agree… it’s talk. Listen. Share thoughts. And make sure whatever comes next still feels like Conway.”
He smiles. “So I’m curious…”
