The Coppell Senior Center has embraced Zoom with a variety of virtual programming for members, including a sketching class. The Senior Center’s annual ice cream social could not meet in person this year due to COVID-19. But that didn’t stop our team from finding a way for seniors to beat the heat! This year, the Senior Center collaborated with Coppell’s Andy's Frozen Custard to treat each member to a sundae as a walk-up, come-and-go socially distant event today. The seniors had a great time supporting a local business and being able to see their friends. Our team was thrilled to be able to see their dear members again! Social distancing practices were in effect and masks were worn by over 90 participating senior center members. #FridayFun #CoppellSeniorCenter #CoppellParks

To wrap up our week with the Park Projects team, we'd like to take a #FlashbackFriday to an event many years ago. A beloved member of the Park Projects team, Denny Brown passed away in 2018, but his legacy of leading with a servant's heart, helping others, and always seeking to put a smile on the face of a friend (even if it meant getting his face painted!) is remembered always and is something our team strives to accomplish to this day. #WeAreParksAndRecreation #CoppellParks

Today is officially the last day of July and Park & Recreation Month, but we're going to keep the fun rolling into August! Stay tuned next week to meet another part of our Parks & Recreation team.

*LOST & FOUND* Did you loose your keys at Andrew Brown Park East yesterday or today? If so, they are currently being held at the front desk at Town Center. Please call 972-462-0022 to claim them and arrange for pickup!

It’s time for another #TeamMemberThursday! Meet our Park Projects team! This crew does a little bit of everything day-to-day that contributes to several projects around our park system to make it great, including: installation of the pavilion doors in Old Town, bike lanes, various trail connections and enhancements, Grapevine Springs Park dredging and wall repair, and expansion of Rolling Oaks Memorial Center to name a few! This crew also serves as our Special Event crew and assists with event setups, coordinates electricity access, and various other tasks to ensure a memorable experience in the park. Be sure to stop and say “Hi!” 👋 the next time you see them in the park! #WeAreParksAndRecreation #CoppellParks

Knitting, crocheting, and sewing aren't just hobbies for Knit Wits members, they are a labor of love! This volunteer group based out of the Coppell Senior Center continues to sew masks for hospitals and others. They will have 700+ masks available to sell on Saturday, August 1 from 8am to noon at the Coppell Farmers Market (768 W. Main St).

The masks are $6 to $12. There are more new fabric choices including Harry Potter and professional/university teams. Sizes are adult large, adult medium, youth and children. There will be a limited number of pocket masks that allow for a filter. The proceeds of this sale will be used to purchase materials/supplies for masks and baby items that are handmade and donated.

Since March, the Knit Wits have sewn and donated 2,575 masks to various people and organizations in the area including Children's Hospital, UT Southwestern Hospital, Parkland Hospital, John Peter Smith Hospital, Frisco Assisted Living, Kroger employees in Coppell, Metrocrest Kitchen volunteers, Love Thy Neighbor Kitchen volunteers, Flower Mound Hospital and Flower Mound Senior Center!

Waggin’ Tails Dog Park will reopen on Monday, July 27! After careful thought and consideration over the past several months, staff have determined that we can now safely reopen the dog park. The safety of our two- and four-legged guests is a high priority for us and with that in mind, the Dog Park water fountain will remain closed at this time. The park will be closed on Wednesdays for mowing and maintenance.

We encourage all our park and facility users to follow CDC recommendations. Social distancing requirements must also be followed. Say, “Hi!” to the Senior and Community Center team! 👋 They help members of the community ages 50 and older stay active by providing a variety of trips, educational courses, service projects, creative crafting classes, and physical fitness sessions for all mobilities! Today’s #WhatsUpWednesday is wild! The Biodiversity Education Center encourages young naturalists to stop by during EcoExplorer visiting hours (Wednesdays from 3-6pm or Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 9am-12pm). Rather than inviting visitors inside, staff are offering activity kits through a pick-up window. Each kit includes a map and self-paced activities for exploring the trails just behind the building. If you’re in the area, stop by this afternoon from 3-6pm! The BEC is located at 367 Freeport Parkway. #WeAreParksAndRecreation #CoppellBEC #CoppellParks

Did you know that the Biodiversity Education Center was designed with green features in mind? When walking down to the BEC, you can see the 96 solar panels on our roof and how the roof is shaped to funnel rain into our cistern. The cistern can then be used to pump water throughout our native landscape to save on water. And this is just one of many green features at the BEC! #TriviaTuesday #CoppellBEC #WeAreParksAndRecreation #CoppellParks
