You ever tell someone not to do something and they were already doing it anyway? That's how my day started off yesterday!

Around 7 something yesterday morning, I get a text from John, "I'm calling 911". 😳

After scaring the life out of me, I continued reading, he needed the PD come block the lane for him so he could change this tire. Thank God that's all it was!

He sends me a picture from INSIDE his truck. This customers tire blew out on the I-35E "TEXpress" road. So I tell him, "Dad DO NOT get out of your truck until they get there, and please call the customer and tell them to do the same."

He was already outside the truck, recording videos of the cars and semis flying past him. 😒

Flat tire in the express lane on I-35E... tiny shoulder, traffic flying by inches away. Better him than me, because I would have probably passed out! But this is exactly why we say don’t risk it! Stay INSIDE your vehicle and call for help!!! 🚨

If there’s one thing I know for absolute certain, it’s that John will never leave anyone stranded. (unless they ask him to, and maybe not even then)!!!

John was dispatched out to a tire change on 380 in Ponder. The customer had been waiting for someone for almost 3 hours!!!! She was in tears and so thankful that he had shown up to help. She also told him she had a TBI and was handicapped.

After getting her spare out and car jacked up, he happened to notice that her front tire was also blown! Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get her car back on the road. But he did tell her what she needed to do as far as calling her roadside back to request an unattended tow.

He then packed her and her things up inside HIS truck, drove her to work in Decatur and carried her things into the building for her. How’s that for top notch customer service? 👏👏

Our officers have been working several traffic hazard and assist motorist calls today. We have seen no major crashes during this winter storm — thank you for staying home and off the roads! Conditions are still slick and icy, and travel conditions aren’t expected to improve for the next couple of days. Keep warm, Denton! ☃️

🚧❄️ PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE ❄️🚧

Our Public Works crews are actively working to keep main areas drivable around the city, with priority given to ensuring access for the Lake Cities Fire Department and Lake Dallas Police Department.

Crews are treating icy surfaces and clearing snow to help first responders safely reach emergencies during this extreme cold event. This work is ongoing as conditions allow.

🙏 Thank you to our Public Works team, Lake Cities Fire Department, and Lake Dallas Police Department for working through these tough conditions to keep our community safe and thank you to our residents for staying off the roads when possible and allowing crews to do their job safely.
