Iowa Secretary of State - Paul D. Pate

With the recent mailing by the Iowa Secretary of State of absentee request forms to registered voters in Iowa there have been a lot of questions and misinformation floating around regarding absentee voting in Iowa, especially on social media. The processes, rules and laws that govern voting are very exact and would involve a more thorough explanation than a simple post would contain. If you have a question or concern regarding voting you are encouraged to reach out to Becky Bissell, Adams County Auditor at 641-322-3340 who serves as the Commissioner of Elections for Adams County. The Auditor’s office is ready to help you understand more fully the voting process and to provide accurate information about elections and voting. There is an informational article as well on our website at www.adamscountyia.com The Iowa Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.iowa.gov is also a great resource for information.

Adams County Auditor Becky Bissell joins Secretary of State Paul Pate and auditors across Iowa in encouraging voters to cast absentee ballots by mail in the upcoming June 2 primary. During the COVID-19 pandemic, voting by mail is the safest option.

Secretary Pate is sending absentee ballot request forms to every active registered voter in the state. The forms should arrive in your mailbox soon and will include pre-paid postage for returning them to the auditor’s office.

“We encourage all of Adams County voters to take advantage of the opportunity to vote absentee by mail in the June primary election. We are making this push for the safety of our voters and polling location workers,” Bissell stated.

Once voters receive their absentee ballot request form in the mail, they should fill out and mail it promptly. Requests must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 22.

Primary elections are intended for members of the Republican and Democratic parties only. No Party voters who choose to request a party’s ballot will have their voter registration officially changed to that political party. For more information, contact the Auditor's Office at 641-322-3340.

Attention Spring Turkey Hunters!!!

Due to the current Covid-19 situation, now is the time to think about purchasing your Spring Turkey Season transportation tags. Your options are as follows here in Adams County:

Use your smartphone to download the “Go Outdoors Iowa” app from the Apple or Google Play store. There is a QR code you can scan in the flyer attached to this post that will take you to a page with links to download the app. You can purchase your turkey tags but will need to wait for the physical tag to be mailed to you before you can legally transport a harvested bird.

Call the Adams County Recorder office @ 641-322-3744. We can process your request for a tag over the telephone and you can pay using your credit card, then you can either arrange a pick-up time or we will mail them to you.

Please make sure you plan in advance to get your tags. The app is handy, but it can take some time to receive transportation tags in the mail. Our office is committed to getting your tags into your hands as quickly as possible. If you have any questions, please call the office at the number listed above, or you can email me at [email protected].

What better way to social distance than spending some time in the turkey woods calling in a nice gobbler!

Stay safe!
