Thank you to everyone who supported me in the School Board Election. It means the world to me that so many people supported the children in our district, and came out to vote. It was a good run, and I got a glimpse of how the political mechanisms work in our county. Congratulations to all the winners!

It's important to me as a candidate that I give you all the tools to make an informed decision in this election. Frankly, this election will directly impact our children and their future. That is why I think it is important to be transparent with my beliefs and active in communication. Do you really want to vote for those who give minimal effort in something that directly impacts our children?

November SNAP Benefits on Hold due to Federal Government Shutdown

Montezuma County, CO - Because of the ongoing federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has not released the funds that states use to issue SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. As a result, Colorado is unable to distribute SNAP benefits until federal funding is restored. This is a federal decision, not a local one.
What this means for Montezuma County:
• If the federal shutdown continues, SNAP recipients will not receive benefits for November.
• If the shutdown ends before November 1, benefits will be delayed.
• Official notices will be mailed to SNAP recipients on October 22.
• Other assistance programs—Cash assistance, Medicaid, senior lunches, and Meals-on-Wheels—are not affected at this time.
What you can do now:
• If you are a current SNAP recipient and have rollover funds on your EBT card, we recommend using those funds before November 1.
How you can help:
• Monetary donations to your local food pantry are recommended. Financial donations go further because food pantries can purchase supplies at lower costs through their established contracts.
• Contact your state and federal representatives to share your concerns about the impact of the shutdown.
The Montezuma County Department of Social Services is following the situation closely and working with local partners to have plans in place if the shutdown continues through October. We will release information as we receive it, but clients can also visit cdhs.colorado.gov/snap for updates.
If you have an immediate need for additional food resources, we encourage you to reach out to your local food banks or community agencies for assistance.

Hello everyone, My name is Erik Quiroz I’m running for the RE-1 School Board. I believe in the transformative power of education, especially for our children. As someone who has dedicated over a decade to community service and nonprofit work, I’ve seen firsthand how access to quality education can open doors and change lives. I want to ensure that every child in our district has the support, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed—regardless of their background. With my experience in community development, veteran leadership, and a Master's in Justice Studies, I bring a strong sense of responsibility, equity, and advocacy to the table. This isn’t just about policy for me it’s about people, families, and the future of our community.
