The news cycle never ends. Millions of Americans are reeling from Hurricane Harvey, and will be for months or years to come. Now another hurricane looms. There are the increased tensions with North Korea, the looming decision on DACA, and many other serious concerns.

All of these are important, but sometimes it helps to take a moment for a breath to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. For me that's spending time with family, a walk in the woods, and sometimes a glass of whiskey, which I take neat, "water back."

Another personal pleasure has been opening my mind to the world of science, so I was happy to stumble across this article. I thought it might be a nice change of pace on the final evening of a long holiday weekend. Who knows what the coming week will bring?

November 17th marked the 4th annual Jack Joyce Scholarship celebration. Rogue Brewing and Columbia Distributing awarded 6 scholarships totaling (a very generous) $60,000 to OSU Fermentation Science students. It was a festive evening and the Hot Tub Scholarship Lager was enjoyed by many. The back story there is that one winner from a previous year used their scholarship money to buy a hot tub. So very Rogue.

Attention Homebrewers!!

Vice Media's television network is currently working on the second season of Beerland, a homebrew competition show hosted by Meg Gill that dives into different craft beer communities around the US to feature fascinating homebrewers and the brews they make!

We're heading to Oregon August 17-21 (soon, I know!) and we're hoping to find a few unique and outgoing homebrewers to profile and feature in our show! We're especially interested in those affiliated with OSU's fermentation sciences program, but that's not mandatory!

We will showcase different homebrewers from all walks of life who are passionate about not only the beer they make but the community they share it with. We’re very interested in finding diverse and unique people and fun, visual places and events where they share their beer! Kayaking, hiking, or drinking beer at an eclipse party, we're interested in it all!
Any homebrewers who might be interested in sharing their story and passion with us should email [email protected] the following info as soon as possible:
