The School of Design and Human Environment is a part of the College of Business at Oregon State University. We offer BS degrees in Merchandising Management, Apparel Design, Graphic Design and Interior Design/Housing Studies, as well as MS, MA and PhD degrees in Design & Human Environment.

Come learn how to stand out when applying for internships and job opportunities, how to best prepare your portfolio, and how to make a lasting impression. DHE 490 Special Topics: SDHE Career Symposium Event Coordination
SEEKING SDHE MAJORS! Application deadline is November 1st
The SDHE Career Symposium is an annual event that connects companies in the textile, apparel, interior, housing and design industries with students. Next symposium:Thursday, February 27th
Be a part of the team that works to making this event happen. Gain leadership and event planning experience while honing time management, organizational, marketing and creative skills. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a personal recommendation letter from Sandy Burnett, Faculty Career Symposium Coordinator, and a wonderful experience to add to resume and professional credentials.
Requirements:
1. Must have February 27th open the entire day. (FYI all DHE classes are cancelled on this day)
2. Have good class standing and a GPA above 2.75
3. Enroll in DHE 490 for 3 credits Winter term which will meet on Wednesdays from 12-3pm.
4. Be an organized person with good -attention to detail, follow up skills and time management.

2. Review the responsibilities and indicate what area(s) you are interested in.
Industry Relations/Speaker Coordination: Coordinate session topics and all speakers for each session
Budget/Sponsorship: Includes keeping budget of all paid expenses, and all sponsorships. Coordinating company tables. Etc.
Print/Marketing: Includes coordinating and/or designing all marketing and print for symposium.
Answer the following questions in your email: What experience and/or skill sets makes you qualified for the interest area(s) you indicated. How large of a leadership role would you like to have? (i.e. “I would like a director level role”, “I would like to be an active committee member, but not as a lead”)

Former DAMchic Editor-in-Chief and OSU alum, Erin Hatley, and current EIC, Katie Sherpe, alongside few staff members will be representing as proud Beavers at the PFSA2013 awards ceremony held on Saturday, October 26th at the Ainsworth Event Center in Portland, OR.
This is the magazine's second nomination in the Best Fashion Publisher category since it was founded September 2012.
DAMchic Magazine is the first fashion & lifestyle publication produced by Oregon State University students.
2013 Summer Interns
Next week (October 7-12) is Portland Design week. All design fields will be represented in 80 events and over 100 open-houses.

Over 163 students completed internship experiences during the 2012-2013 school year representing over 109 different companies. 11 students interned in NYC's Garment District, 8 students in LA, and 4 students internationally in Barcelona, Ireland, and London.
So far over 30 position offers have been extended. Way to go DHE interns! Check out some of the "in action" pics from this summer.

The Oregon State University School of Design and Human Environment presents their annual student-run fashion show. This year our theme is Floralia, translated as the Goddess of Flowers, a light yet mysterious garden party.
12 students and 2 faculty from the School of Design and Human Environment visited NYC's fashion district in June for a week long filled of industry site visitis including several large RTW manufacturers, retail headquarters, trend forecasting comapny, a couture designer, and fashion entrepreneurs while also connecting with DHE alumni working in NYC and expereincing Manhattan's many cultural activities. Students gained an understanding of job opportunities available in NYC and better appricaition for the inner workings of our nation's fashion district.

After enrollment assessment on April 30, the following SDHE courses have been approved for Summer Session:

DHE 271: Introduction to Retail Buying
DHE 366: Cross-Cultural Aspects of the Near Environment
DHE 399: Dress, Museums, and Popular Culture
DHE 499: Advanced Construction Techniques: Tailoring
Please enroll for these courses by June 3 to help ensure that they are offered. If enrollment drops below 13 for any of these courses, they could be cancelled. Thank you! We look forward to seeing you in class!
