Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, & the Arts Learn how to get involved in undergraduate research at Oregon State University.

Research participation at Oregon State University is accessible to any undergraduate student who are interested. Want to get involved? Check out the following websites that pertain to your specific college at OSU or look into the research being done by specific professors in your major. Facilities: http://advantage.oregonstate.edu/research-facilities-osu Colleges: http://research.oregonstate.edu/academic-colleges-osu Resources for Funding: http://research.oregonstate.edu/students Once you find a few different research labs that you are interested in, start contacting professors to set up a meeting to discuss their research. Some professors will be busy and not have openings in their lab but others will be very excited to help you get started in research! Although you may start your research experience as a volunteer, there are plenty of opportunities for funding. Check out URISC, URSA Engage and URAP scholarships along with any other scholarships that are specifically offered by your college. Once your research is done, you may have the opportunity to share your research at events such as Celebrating Undergraduate Excellence, the Summer Symposium, or local or national conferences. Besides this, research will strengthen your resume and provide great networking opportunities for future academic and career development.

Mission: To connect all interested undergraduate students at Oregon State University with research opportunities.

10/31/2018

Are you interested in paid research? You’ve come to the right place! The goal of URSA Engage is to provide first and second year students, and transfer students in their first year at OSU, opportunities to pursue research or a creative activity under the guidance of an OSU mentor. Students who are selected will receive an award of $750 and their faculty mentors will receive $250 to support the project. The program is available to undergraduates across all academic disciplines. Projects will take place from the middle of winter term 2019 through the end of spring term 2019 (15 weeks at 5 hrs/week).

Everything you need to know is live on our website!

There are over 120 amazing projects on our website for you to look through, including those that involve:

improving models for fuel combustion
developing Monte Carlo simulations
exploring overuse injuries in Division I athletes
producing a short documentary film on the history of the visual and literary arts at OSU
investigating the role of plants in shaping coastal habitats

So, now what do you do? Here are the steps:

1. Go to the URSA Engage website and read through the faculty mentor project descriptions.
2. RSVP and attend one of our facilitated informational/networking workshops (not required but highly recommended). Each faculty mentor project description will tell you which workshop that faculty mentor will be attending.
Reach out to faculty via email and set up a meeting to discuss applying to the program.
3. Once you find a mentor, have your faculty mentor read your final application and sign the Faculty Mentor Approval Form, which will need to be attached.
4. Submit the program application!
