In the process of summarizing my work into book form I'm coming across images I never released for one reason or another. Here's a fun example from the time my studio was filled with branches: a yin/yang photograph of fractals.
Really honored to have one of my paintings on the cover of Playa's newly completed 2018 anthology. Good timing too as I'm currently working in the studio to complete a piece I made on residency while there again this past summer. I may look for a one night pop-up so I can document it set up in a large space.... watch for a viewing announcement here.
In the mean time consider supporting Playa by purchasing one of their anthologies. The work they do is really wonderful.

•Sacred Geometry Movement•
Neosutras is a bold new dance fusion style inspired by the awe-inspiring and primal rhythm of the universe, sacred geometry and yantric fractal design. It fuses the ancient and the modern, capturing our connectedness and synchronicity through innovative and sensual movement at the intersection of the past and the future.
Our mission is to inspire the expansion of our personal connection to our mind, body and soul, so we can more meaningfully and deeply connect to others and our glorious universe.

At the time I didn’t think to stop and ask her what she meant by it. My heart was beating too fast. My body shaking with a rising tide of loss.
You know it too.
You remember it from when don’t you?
I remember my knees going weak just like they say they do. Or did the ground just suddenly hurl itself up at me?
You remember that?

What can I say to you my love? Today time paused and I saw with such clarity. The choices I’ve made. The salt of sweat on my upper lip.
Packing up for the drive home this weekend. Will leave this piece as a work in progress with the hopes of getting in a session on the playa tmrw. (6’x20”x20”)
Self doubt plopped itself in my studio yesterday setting up camp like it was moving in for good. I hadn’t even thought to tell it about the residency and, to be honest, wouldn’t have invited it along had the thought occurred to me. So here it was all proud with itself for finding me and telling me the hundred ways what I’m working on is challenged with. Okay you snide little bastard. Come do your thing for awhile but be quick about it. I’ve only got this one lifetime.
The project I’ve taken on for this residency is so painstaking and exacting that whenever I step back from it and observe I can’t believe I’m doing it. One of those things best left unexamined...
Journey to @playasummerlake
Not my normal thing but when good friends decided to have a baby I couldn’t pass on the chance to do a maternity shoot just for fun. It was amazing. The shapes the contours.. the life within life!
Sorry for the instagram crop...
Thank you to everyone that made the opening night of “So Much Has Changed Since Then”. It was a wonderful evening.
For those who may have missed it I’ll be in the gallery tmrw from 11-1.

Filled a couple hundred holes in the walls, pulled down the installation matrix from the ceiling, gave away the furniture and handed in the keys. My studio has officially moved home. Thanks to everyone that made this space so wonderful for me!

“He Realized His Life Had Been Shaped By Three Singular Events”
This piece was inspired by a lovely new friend I made while in Costa Rica. “Every Time She Returned From The Darkness She Had Handfuls Of Gems”
The doorway to my studio.
My current setup takes a bit over an hour to get up and running each time I work (it’s enough that I don’t do spur of the moment sessions or ideas), and I can really dread it. Once I start setting up I get excited though. There’s a point where I physically create the surface of the water I’ll be dropping with my hands and it’s wonderful. It isn’t a one to one translation. There’s this really pretty transformation between the initial drop and where I catch the image, and the shape I create with my hands explores that space. I’m currently working with base functions (linear, natural log, exponential...) to explore a single plane within the space of ‘waterfall’.
After then there’s the infinite...
Fitting some studio time in between the studio move and gardening. Never enough...
Just learned this painting has been picked for the cover art of PLAYA’s 2018 anthology. Honored to be associated with that magical place!
Thanks to everyone who made it out for the reveal at my open studio. For those who couldn't make it in person I'm starting to document my work at Playa and will post here over the next week.
This is a formal application of dot painting in the form of a topographic map of the Summer Lake area.

In between studio sessions and garden I’m boxing up and moving my old studio. Loving the layers of memories and ideas in this.
“Grief Is Not Linear”
“Tom-Tom Goes Walkabout”
This post of past art is prompted by the recent shootings in New Zealand. I see Trump’s rhetoric activating domestic terrorists here in the states & abroad too, and I wanted some way to visually represent it. Hate begets hate..., go figure.
Shortly after Trump was elected Jeremy Christian killed two men, and severely wounded a third, who were defending two muslim women on a Portland Tram from Christan's anti-muslim rage. Christian was fanatically patriotic. He often wore an American flag draped over his shoulders while attending white supremacy rallies. How could it have affected this deranged man when Trump, someone spewing the same hate filled rhetoric Christian found brotherhood in, was elected to our nation's presidency? Wouldn't it be normal for him to feel his beliefs are gaining martial support?
I processed this event through art creating this composite photograph of water falling water drops. It's scaled with enough resolution that it can be printed life size but thus far has exhibited maximum at 3'x5'. One day I'd like to see it printed full size in a show about these demented years. I think it's important artists record what's happening right now and create, create, create. History books have a way of being late to the party under oppressors. Trump is activating domestic terrorist cells with the campaign rhetoric he spewed and actions he continues to support behind the seal of our nations presidency.
This piece is titled "Exhibit A" (in the trial of The People Vs. President Trump).
Let it be so...

Third go at this painting. This time more blunt...
Wonderful evening last night. The long line at times turned some people away but I really enjoyed allowing those who attended the space needed to fully immerse in The Timbre of Winter.
Great experience collaborating with Matt Kellam on this project.
Wonderful weekend spent in the outdoor studio. Harvesting material for Thursday’s event...

The orientation of this painting keeps changing as it evolves. How it currently sits...
Studio day. Am mulling over the transform from maths to music while working on this arced dot painting.
I’m consumed by the idea of visualizing a chorus within some self-consistent translation to its transformed main. How would that look? Could it be anything but beautiful? One day...
Two day status.
A pretty big departure from my typical palette...
Something's broke free.
Last week I canceled a solo I'd signed up for in February. It's no secret I'm stuck and pushing myself with a deadline wasn't helping. A few nights after I dreamt a painting. Was talking to a writer friend today about my excitement to start it and we reveled together in how good that can feel.
Waiting for it to dry.
Ready for color.
Paul is the featured artist on tonight’s art walk. Hope to see your smiling faces there....
