All DPW crews are out on the roads as the snow is starting to fall. If you are able to stay off the roads, please do so. With the forecasted strong wind, downed wires and trees are a possibility, please contact 911 for those emergencies.
Due to the storm all trash and recycling for Monday, February 23rd has been cancelled. The schedule will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for northern Connecticut, including the Town of Coventry, from 4PM Sunday to 7AM Tuesday Morning. The forecast calls for 10-20 inches of snow. High winds are expected with occasional wind gusts up to 45 mph in Tolland County. Residents are advised to avoid travel as the snowfall begins to rapidly increase Sunday afternoon and overnight into Monday mid-day. With severe winter weather in our forecast, we want to remind Coventry residents that in the event of extended power outages, major road closures, or delayed openings/closures of Town facilities, our primary method of communication will be through our CivicReady Alert system. As every storm is different, specifics are often determined after we see the extent of the storm. Please sign up to receive these alerts at https://public.alertsense.com/SignUp/?RegionId=1747
Power outages should be reported to Eversource. https://www.eversource.com/cg/customer/reportoutage or 800-286-2000. You can also view an outage map at this site.
A Live Storm Sheet, maintained by Coventry emergency personnel, is another resource that you can check to see if a downed tree, power line, road blockage, etc. has already been reported in your area. Checking this sheet first before contacting us might help to reduce duplicative reports to our dispatch personnel. Here is a link to the sheet which will be updated in real time after the storm begins: https://www.coventry-ct.gov/636/Live-Storm-Sheet
As always, IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING A LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCY, PLEASE CALL 9-1-1.
With the Sunday-Monday snowstorm in the forecast, some resources that we normally direct residents to for warming centers, including the Booth & Dimock Memorial Library and the Coventry Senior Center, will not be open that day. We urge you to make sure to stock up on basic and emergency supplies for your households, and don't forget prescription medications and pet supplies as part of your emergency planning.
