Did you know that Covert Township has a thriving Community Garden? In early 2023, with the support of the VBDL Covert Branch and interested residents, we launched a pantry garden. Anyone is welcome to harvest food for their family! This is a volunteer driven effort that is 100% funded by grants and donations.

In 2023, Market Van Buren honored Covert Township with their 2023 Annual Municipal Trailblazer award. This award is reserved for municipalities who have displayed exceptional efforts in leading progress. In the wake of the Palisades closure, Covert Township was recognized for our efforts to support revitalization, the multiple grant awards received, and our focus on improving infrastructure.

In early 2023, Senior Services of Van Buren County entered into an agreement with Covert Township to provide important services to our residents age 60 and over. In January 2024, we opened our doors to a newly renovated center right in Covert.

Equitable access to internet is crucial in the world we live in today. Covert Township is a lower income rural community with many households that still have no internet service providers in their area. But that is changing!

Thanks to the efforts of Market Van Buren and VB County, and the collaborative efforts of municipalities like Covert Township, we will have high speed internet available to every single household by the end of 2025. An additional grant secured by SW Michigan Planning Commission will also be utilized to help bridge the gap even further by helping those residents who can not afford the additional cost associated with internet access.

As we count down to election day, we will be highlighting some of the best moments of the last two years, as well as some of our upcoming initiatives.

As the only public access point to Lake Michigan in our Township, it is especially important that we maintain and improve access to this natural wonder. Covert residents have FREE parking and discounts at the beautiful Covert Park Beach & Campground, and will soon have new boardwalks to replace the aging infrastructure, including an ADA ramp on the south end.

This is all thanks to our successful grant applications to the DNR via their trust fund program and SPARK Grant Program, totalling $775K in grant dollars!
