As EMS Week 2026 comes to a close, the North Crawford County Ambulance District would like to extend sincere appreciation to all of our employees for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting human life 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Over the past week alone, our crews answered 60 calls for service, made contact with 53 individuals from communities including Cuba, Leasburg, St. James, Warrenton, Berryman, Sullivan, St. Charles, Bourbon, Steelville, Fort Leonard Wood, Roseboro North Carolina, and Maplewood. We estimate that they completed approximately 240 contacts of people through interactions with residents, families, and receiving hospitals. Those contacts are a way of spreading our stewardship of knowledge and resources to those they serve.
These numbers represent far more than statistics. They represent compassion shown during difficult moments, lifesaving care provided under pressure, and the constant willingness of our providers to serve others regardless of the hour or circumstance. All day, every day the EMT’s and Paramedics of North Crawford are ready to serve and do so without hesitation.

To every EMT, Paramedic, Dispatcher, Supervisor, and support staff member — thank you for the sacrifices you make for our communities each and every day. Your hard work, professionalism, and commitment do not go unnoticed.

Last night, during the regular Board of Directors meeting for the North Crawford County Ambulance District, we recognized an important transition in leadership.

After 12 years of dedicated service, Board Chairman Don Mizell presided over his final meeting. Following the conclusion of regular business, he stepped down as new board member Ben Lunyou assumed the Cuba district position.

Mr. Mizell has helped guide the district through years of change and growth, playing a key role in its development into a leader in rural prehospital healthcare. His commitment over the years has had a meaningful impact on countless lives within our community.

Following the appointment, Secretary/Treasurer Adam Carnal was selected by his fellow board members to serve as the new Board Chairman. Board Member Michelle Volkman with humility, accepted the role of Secretary/Treasurer.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Mizell for his years of service and leadership. We wish him all the best and hope he enjoys his well-earned free time.

North Crawford County Ambulance District is proud to announce the graduation of our first class of EMS puppies. On any given call we may choose to dispatch from 1-7 of these assets. There will be a significant amount of growing pains including chewing, slobber and shedding accompanying this deployment.

We are extremely proud to announce that Pediatric Care Coordinator Paramedic Grace P. has worked diligently for our agency obtain recognition as Pediatric Prehospital Readiness and Excellence Program. The program sets a defined level of pediatric care standards and transport capabilities that we have met. Some of our equipment was made possible through funds from the previous bond issue, Proposition Lifesaver.
