We are INCREDIBLY PROUD and INSPIRED by one of our founders for her continuous dedication to our community. From all of us at the Elizabeth Learning Center Alumni Association-- thank you, Elizabeth Alcantar Loza! You got this!

Thank you to our Cudahy community that voted yesterday, in particular to those who voted #217 Alcantar. This has been, and will continue to be, a commUNITY effort.

While we wait until the results are official (provisional ballots, last-minute mail-in ballots, etc.), we are encouraged by last night’s results and will make sure that every single vote is counted. I’d also like to take the time to thank my running mate, Baru Sanchez who has served our community since 2013, for his commitment to Cudahy.

ELC's Information Technology Academy is a career-oriented community which prepares students for success in college, workplace, and life. ELC Alumni have moved on to attend schools like Harvard University, UC Berkeley, University of Southern California, Cal Poly Pomona, UCLA, and CSULB; and work at companies like Apple, Google, DirectTV, Morgan Stanley, Sungevity, and Murphy, Murphy, and Murphy.

For 10+ years ELC's award winning Virtual Business has exposed students to regional and state wide Trade Show competitions that provide skills in Technology, HR, Finance, Marketing, Sales and Entrepreneurship. Unfortunately ELC's virtual business funding has been slashed in 1/2 due to Federal and State budget cuts! Because of this Students are at risk of having one of their most important Trade Show event cancelled. Historically, the San Diego trade show has served as vital preparation for the State Wide Championship in Bakersfield. It's very important that we all unite to help our students achieve!!!! We are asking ELC Alumni, Community Leaders, Local Businesses, Students and Parents to join our cause and help us raise $5,000 to support this cause. Whether you donate $20, $100, $500 or $1000 every penny counts; all funds will be donated to the Tech Academy's Virtual Business Non Profit Organization."

Hey Seniors, did you miss us as much as we missed you? 😭 YES! ELCAA is back in action THIS FRIDAY! However, we will be meeting at Scanlan's room instead of the College Center. We will be going over letters of recommendation and what content it should have. In addition, we will be walking around checking your progress with applications, scanning for any errors. We will also be checking personal statements so please bring a draft with you. COME PREPARED! Also, please RSVP as usual in our bio to give us an idea about how many students will be needing computers. Thanks y'all! Remember, deadline is in 25 days!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of joining the Elizabeth Learning Center Alumni Association on their Meet & Greet zoom to speak to ELC students, faculty, and alumni about ELCAA's history and hear from the current team about the work to come.

It was in 2013 that I came together with alumni like Pablo Simental to coordinate college preparedness workshops and address the needs of our ELC community. We acknowledged that although our teachers and counselors were there to support us, the reality of funding in public education meant there was only one college counselor for our entire school. ELCAA was born because of that and now students that benefitted from that work have taken on the name to continue it. I'm so grateful for them and their dedication to our ELC and Cudahy youth. Thank you!

¡Gracias!
