As we head into Memorial Day weekend, SHARE! pauses to honor the men and women who have served our country — and to celebrate the Veteran Peer Access Network (VPAN) team making a difference in their lives every single day. Through VPAN, trained veteran peer specialists connect veterans, service members, and military families across LA County to housing, mental health care, employment support, and more. Because no veteran should have to navigate the system alone. Thank you to all who have served.

We had an incredible collaborative day yesterday diving into a game-changing tool for our community: the free LA Streetlight () App! 📱✨

Built specifically for Transition Age Youth (TAY), L.A. Streetlight is a peer-to-peer platform providing up-to-the-minute resources—from safe spaces and food access to trusted local support—for young people navigating life's most uncertain moments.

Shannon had a fantastic sit-down meeting with Susan "Suzy" Herbert, LMFT (SHARE!'s Director of Clinical & Peer Support Services) and Tom Haberkorn (Director of Housing & Real Estate).

During Shannon's visit, CEO, Brian D. Ulf, met with the app's visionary creator, Shannon Munford, to discuss the huge possibilities for this partnership.

Thanks to Suzy’s amazing history of working with Shannon, the synergy in the room was electric, and it was an absolute pleasure getting behind the camera to film their conversation!

Stay tuned for the video! In the meantime, you can check out the L.A. Streetlight app on the App Store to see how it’s lighting the way forward for TAY youth. 💡

🌟Media Shoutout! We were honored to host San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan at SHARE! Culver City for an inspiring day focused on solutions to homelessness.**

Our CEO, Brian D. Ulf, gave Mayor Mahan a firsthand tour of our facility, showcasing how peer support and recovery programs are the vital keys to transitioning individuals off the streets and into stable, supportive environments like Collaborative Housing. The visit concluded with a powerful press conference highlighting the life-changing impact of these initiatives.

"A huge thank you to Mayor Mahan for taking the time to deeply understand our programs, engage with our community, and show his unwavering support for peer-led recovery."

We also want to extend a massive thank you to ABC7 News for covering the event and helping us shine a spotlight on these critical solutions.

Happy Mental Health Action Day! đź’š

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and there are so many impactful ways we can support ourselves and our communities. Awareness is a fantastic starting point, but today is all about taking that next step and moving from awareness to action.

Here are a few ways you can get involved today (and every day!):

Volunteer Your Time: Reach out to local mental health organizations, community centers, or crisis text lines. Donating your time and energy is one of the most direct ways to support those who are struggling. SHARE! is always looking for new volunteers! Visit www.shareselfhelp.org/volunteer to learn more.

Speak Up to End the Stigma: Have an open, honest conversation with a friend, family member, or colleague. Simply asking someone how they are really doing, and actively listening, helps normalize talking about mental health and breaks down the stigma surrounding it.

Share Your Story: Vulnerability is a superpower. If you feel comfortable, share your own mental health journey. Talk about the boundaries you set, the therapy that helped, or the daily habits you use to maintain your well-being (like going for walks, journaling, or taking screen breaks).

Amplify on Social Media: You never know who might need to hear your message today! Share your favorite mental health resources, post your self-care tips, or simply let your network know you are a safe space to talk.

Taking action doesn't have to be a grand gesture; even the smallest ripples create waves. What is one action you are taking for your mental health today? Let’s talk about it in the comments! 👇

Tomorrow, May 15, is ! đź’š

If you are a senior, or if you have a loved one who is, taking action can look like reaching out for support, discovering a new hobby, or simply finding a community of peers who understand you and can provide social support and alleviate isolation.

Let's focus on moving from awareness to action, which is especially important for older adults in our community. Staying connected and active is one of the best ways to support long-term well-being and stability.

SHARE!'s United Mental Health Promoters (UMHP) program is dedicated to helping older adults across Los Angeles County build meaningful connections and thrive. Here are just a few ways seniors can get involved and take action today:

✨ Join a Peer-Led Support Group: Connect with trained Mental Health Promoters who offer culturally and linguistically appropriate one-on-one and group support, meeting you exactly where you are.

🎨 Discover New Activities: Drop by the Watts Senior Center for UMHP's weekly groups! Get involved in arts and crafts, technology workshops, wellness sessions, poetry, storytelling, and more.

🤝 Access Community Resources: The UMHP team helps navigate housing assistance and connects individuals with the tools and mental health services tailored to their unique needs.

You don't have to navigate mental health alone; there is a whole community waiting to welcome you.

🌟 SHARE! Spotlight: ""I realized these people are going to help people just like them."" - Dyamond, on taking SHARE!'s Peer Support Specialist Training!

Sometimes, we all need a little nudge. For Dyamond, it was a ""sober sister"" who finally convinced her to take the leap and sign up for SHARE!'s Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Training.

Her motivation was simple but powerful: “My heart is truly in recovery, and I want to help people just like me.”

By stepping out of her comfort zone, Dyamond not only completed the training, she also landed a job right here at SHARE! Downtown!
