Something I didn’t know would fascinate and thrill me when I started gardening: Fasciation. 🤩

I have had one fasciated flower years ago. Oddly enough, the plants I have grown this way most often are squash! Every single year I have planted squash, regardless of the varieties, I come across some anomaly in the flowers, stems, or fruit.

Unfortunately I was too busy to check the garden yesterday, so I missed these female blooms at their peak to ensure they were pollinated. I saw lots of ants (remember they are also pollinators) today, so I am crossing my fingers these dumpling squash were pollinated and will continue to form and grow!

June 1st Meal Kits were delivered and we have already heard from a few recipients. It warms the heart to know what we do matters to those families. ❤️

We shipped 282 out to our families and still have 211 Meal Kits available to add to our deliveries weekly. If you received an email invitation please sign up so we reach our goal of 500!

Tuesday, June 2nd is the deadline for Week Delivery for June 8th

Families only need to sign up one time to receive continued weekly meal kits.

I have a half bed of onions growing in the garden, but those aren’t ready yet and food (among everything else) is expeeeensive🥴

Save money and prep for your future self wherever you can- even if you don’t grow it yourself!! It’s little everyday habits like these that can fill our freezers and pantries for uncertain times.

3 lb bags of onions were on sale, so I grabbed two. (These were absolutely mislabeled as yellow onions, but were definitely sweet.)

It took me just 18 minutes to skin them, dice with my onion chopper, and spread into parchment lined baking sheets in the freezer.

A couple hours later, I have 6 lbs/2 gallon freezer bags worth of diced onions ready to go for just $4 and

My garlic went in in November (inchelium red, softneck) so technically shouldn’t have been ready until June or July. I’ve pulled a couple heads the past couple weeks to use, and noticed they were separating. I checked some more today and saw they separated more and were losing their skins, so I went ahead and just pulled all of them.

I’m not sure if it was the long, cold winter and snow, or the early hot Spring, but sometimes nature just tells you its own time plan. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m going to process this fresh and freeze, afraid the lack of protective skins won’t let it store long. 🧄🧄🧄

Last pic🐞🐞🐞is a friendly reminder to just work with nature, not against it. Some tiny aphids have popped up on my pea plants. A quick spray with the hose gets most off, and relocated ladybugs I’ve found around the yard can be placed to snack on any remainders. Don’t always jump right to sprays and harsh methods. 💚👩🏻‍🌾
