📚 Happy National Read a Book Day! 🐯💛🖤

Today, we’re celebrating the joy of reading with some of our Black Tigers! Whether it’s a favorite story, an exciting new adventure or a book that helps you learn something new, there’s always a good reason to turn the page.

Want to celebrate with us?
📖 Pick up a book — Spend a few minutes (or a few hours!) with a new release, an old favorite or an interesting non-fiction title.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Share the joy — Read with a child or young person, or help a reluctant reader discover graphic novels, e-books or audiobooks.
📚 Support local spaces — Visit your local library or an independent bookstore and find your next great read!

A special thank you to all of the students, staff, and families who submitted photos for our video. We loved seeing our Black Tigers getting lost in a good book! Check out the video in the comments!

📊 Finance Friday: How Zero-Based Budgeting Keeps CFCSD Fiscally Responsible

We’re back! This past spring and summer, we examined state funding formulas, property appraisals, and state mandates. Today, we are opening the hood on our local internal financial practices to show how Cuyahoga Falls City School District actively manages every tax dollar.

Many public institutions rely on "traditional rollover budgeting"—taking the previous year's budget and automatically adding inflation percentages.
At CFCSD, we do not assume last year's spending is automatically justified. Instead, our district utilizes Zero-Based Budgeting (ZBB).

Here is how Zero-Based Budgeting protects local resources:
📄 Starts at $0: Every single year, each building and department begins with a clean slate.
🔎 Justifies Every Item: Principals, supervisors, and department heads must review and justify every proposed expense based on current instructional needs—not past spending habits.
🎯 Aligned to Student Goals: Every dollar spent must directly connect to our strategic plan and academic priorities.
💡 Eliminates Waste: ZBB stops the practice of "spending down" remaining funds at year-end just to keep a budget line item for next year.

By replacing "do more with less" with "do the right things with the right amount," CFCSD ensures maximum accountability, efficiency, and transparency for our taxpayers.

For a detailed look at how our administrators build their zero-based budgets, visit our Finance Friday page on our district website. 👉 https://www.cfalls.org/FinanceFridays.aspx

Some things never change. 💛🖤

Anyone who has seen Superintendent Andrea Celico at a district event knows there’s one thing she has a hard time passing up: a chance to snuggle a baby!

Last year, we shared a sweet moment when Dr. Celico met one of our newest preschool students—and his baby sister managed to steal a little time with the superintendent, too.

Fast forward one year, and it looks like Dr. Celico is still getting her baby snuggles in! This time, the reunion happened under the Friday night lights at a Black Tiger football game. 🏈

She may be a little bigger than the baby Dr. Celico held a year ago, but she still fits perfectly in her arms. 💛

One year, two sweet moments, and a reminder that watching our Black Tiger families grow is one of the very best parts of being a school community.

🖤 💛 We loved reading the comments last week about school memories. We have a new question for you!

Fill in the blank: You know you're a Black Tiger when ____?

We'll go first: You know you're a Black Tiger when you have debated which is the REAL Hollywood Squares recipe!

Post your answer in the comments! 👇

Last week, we asked you to share the sights, sounds, and smells that bring back memories of your school days—and we loved reading your responses!

We were especially touched by how many people remembered shiny, freshly waxed floors and the unmistakable sights, sounds, and smells of the school cafeteria. 💛🖤

It’s a wonderful reminder that every member of our Black Tiger Family helps create core memories for our students. Whether in the classroom, kitchen, on the bus, maintaining our buildings, or working behind the scenes, each person plays a part in making our schools a place students will remember for years to come.

Sometimes, the smallest everyday moments become the memories that last a lifetime.

Today, one of our littlest Black Tigers arrived at preschool wearing a Dolly Parton T-shirt and cowgirl boots—a sweet tribute to a woman whose legacy reached far beyond the stage. 🖤💛

Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and lifelong commitment to literacy, Dolly helped place books into the hands and homes of millions of children—including our very own Black Tigers.

One year ago today, we shared the story of a Richardson student who brought Dolly to life through a biography project and later received a surprise gift and personal note from the Dollywood Foundation.

Although we never had the opportunity to meet Dolly Parton, her generosity personally touched the lives of our students. Her belief in the power of books, education, and kindness beautifully reflected our own .

Thank you, Dolly, for helping generations of children learn, dream, and believe in themselves. Your legacy will live on in every story they open. 📚💛
