πŸŒ™πŸŒͺ️ Nighttime Tornadoes Are Especially Dangerous

Tornadoes that occur after dark are more difficult to see and often catch people off guard while they are sleeping.

Before you go to bed:

βœ… Ensure Wireless Emergency Alerts are enabled on your phone

βœ… Keep your phone charged and nearby

βœ… Have a NOAA Weather Radio with fresh batteries

βœ… Know where you will take shelter if a warning is issued

Don't rely on outdoor warning sirens to wake you up. Have multiple ways to receive warnings and be prepared to act quickly.

Being prepared before you go to sleep can save your life.

June 15, 2011 LODD
Firefighter Scott Davis, 40
Muncie Fire Department. Muncie, Indiana
Firefighter Davis and the members of his fire department were dispatched to a report of a fire in a large church. First arriving firefighters reported visible flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof. The first arriving company officer called for a second alarm and shortly thereafter special called additional tankers (tenders). Firefighters entered the structure and found mostly clear conditions in the interior of the church. As firefighters began to open up the ceilings to access the attic space, they discovered a considerable amount of fire. Interior crews were having difficulty controlling the fire with a handline. Water supply was an issue; the area of the church did not have fire hydrants. Interior firefighters notified the incident commander that they were withdrawing from the structure. As firefighters were preparing to leave, a structural collapse occurred. An accountability check was conducted and it was realized that Firefighter Davis was missing. Due to the volume of fire, firefighters were unable to access the collapsed area. Firefighter Davis was located when a news helicopter flying over the scene spotted his remains in the debris. The cause of death was listed as smoke inhalation. The origin of the fire was likely a lightning strike earlier in the day.

The Daleville-Salem Township Fire Protection Territory proudly hosted its 2nd Annual Fire Kids Camp on Saturday.

This program is designed to provide our youth with valuable fire prevention education, basic EMS awareness, and insight into future career opportunities in emergency services. For some participants, it is also an opportunity to begin pursuing a lifelong dream.

We were excited to welcome 43 children this year, 10 or so more than attended last year and each one had an incredible experience. The enthusiasm, engagement, and excitement displayed throughout the day were truly rewarding to witness.

Strong communities are built when we invest in future generations. By introducing children to fire safety, emergency preparedness, teamwork, and public service at an early age, we help create a foundation for future success. Programs like Fire Kids Camp allow us to connect with our youth today rather than waiting until tomorrow.

We are proud to support the young members of our community, who are an important part of both our present and our future. Whether these children choose careers in Fire and EMS or pursue other paths, we hope they leave knowing that they have a fire department that believes in them, supports them, and is cheering them on every step of the way.

Thank you to all of the campers, parents, volunteers, and department members who helped make this year's Fire Kids Camp a tremendous success. It was a great day, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come.
