Friends of LLELA welcomed LISD 7th grade teachers with bagels and coffee this past Saturday for their LLELA 7th Grade Field Experience training. Hosting this annual breakfast is one of the many ways we collaborate with our partners at LISD and LISDOLA.

What is the 7th Grade Field Experience?
Each year every 7th grader in LISD spends a day outdoors on property to:
* walk the Bittern Marsh Trail and learn about wetlands ecosystems;
* participate in the Game Manager for a Day exercise, building on classroom teaching to assess the quality of a partially restored area as habitat for Northern Bobwhite quail; and
* plant native species in one of LLELA’s restoration units while learning about the importance of ecological restoration and getting some hands-on experience.

Each year these students put out between 6,000 and 7,000 plants that are grown in the LLELA nursery.

Many of the students have never been to LLELA or spent much time in natural settings, and we hope that this program will lead some students to our Natural Pathways high school service learning program and from there to consider careers in conservation!

WATER CONSERVATION REQUEST

The City of Lewisville is currently in Stage 1 of its Drought Contingency Plan. Since Aug. 16, water use has averaged over 80% of the City’s storage capacity. While our water supply remains adequate, your help conserving water will ensure we can continue providing safe, dependable drinking water and maintain sufficient capacity for firefighting operations.

Please follow the Stage 1 landscape irrigation schedule:

- Even-numbered addresses (0, 2, 4, 6, 8): Tuesdays and Saturdays
- Odd-numbered addresses (1, 3, 5, 7, 9): Wednesdays and Sundays
- Commercial and multifamily properties: Mondays and Thursdays
- Automatic irrigation is not permitted between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Following these guidelines will help reduce strain on the water system and may prevent the need for additional restrictions. Thank you for doing your part to conserve water.

Notes from our yearly budget meeting last Saturday. We are still a very lean City. Our services and cost are still one of the highest rated in the area. Our staff has done a great job with the vacancy rate and turnover rate.

For those that don’t know, residents can access Camelot landfill 2x per month. After having a freezer die and the contents expire with it, there was an immediate need to get rid of the expired meat and freezer. It was very simple and easy to do this. See below from COL FAQ.

Lewisville residents with Republic as their curbside trash provider have the benefit of two free dumping privileges per month at the Camelot Landfill located at 580 Huffines Boulevard.

Solid waste CANNOT be as a result of commercial activity by the resident. Both landfills have the right to refuse any loads.

To access either landfill, residents must present their current water bill and driver’s license with matching address. All loads brought to the landfill must be securely covered to prevent littering or fees will be charged.

Had the pleasure of attending the Annual Unity Luncheon Yesterday. Special Abilities of North Texas won the Legacy Award and Cross Timbers Family YMCA won the Non-Profit of the Year. Many Non-Profits were in attendance including Keep Lewisville Beautiful.

We are always trying to upgrade our services to residents.

Our staff does listen to resident concerns.

The Library was recently awarded funding from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC), under its Special Projects Grant program, to expand library services to east Lewisville! We will be putting a book locker and book return at the North Community Center at 201 Anna Avenue that will provide all library users with a convenient 24/7 location from which to pick up and return library books and other materials. The Library anticipates the book locker and book return services to be ready to launch in early 2027.

The Lewisville Book Locker and Book Return project is made possible, in part, by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (Grant # LS-260847-OLS-26) to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act. The Library also thanks the Castle Hills HOA for providing this location.

Had the pleasure yesterday of speaking at the dedication of our new affordable housing project - Palladium Lewisville - Palladium USA palladium_usa

This 90 unit mixed income project sold out in around 39 days.

People that are at 30% of AMI have a rent around $800 for a one bedroom.

Bringing Affordable Housing to Lewisville is one of the Council’s top priorities.

This developer listened to us and they have built a wonderful property.

Department Spotlight: Teen Court/Municipal Court ⚖️

Lewisville’s Municipal Court Teen Court program is an alternative, voluntary program which offers young offenders an opportunity to make restitution for an offense through community service, specialized classes and jury service. Adult and teen volunteers are an essential part of the Teen Court program.

Teen volunteers serve as jurors, attorneys, and bailiffs in real Teen Court hearings, gaining hands-on experience in courtroom procedures, public speaking, and leadership. Participants learn responsibility, teamwork, and civic engagement while helping their peers make positive choices. Training is provided, and advancement opportunities are available through continued service.

Adult volunteers support Teen Court by assisting with courtroom operations, mentoring youth volunteers, and helping maintain a professional, structured environment. Volunteers serve in a supportive role and do not determine case outcomes.

The City of Lewisville has partnered with ASTERRA and McKim & Creed to help identify hidden water leaks in our community. As part of this project, McKim & Creed teams may be working near water meters or looking inside meter boxes. They are finishing up their last week of leak detection this week.

These crews are authorized contractors working for the City, and their work helps us find leaks faster, reduce water loss, and save money for our residents.

If you spot their trucks or staff in your area, don’t worry, they’re just helping Lewisville protect our water resources.
