🗣️ Heads up District 3, this is us…

Beginning Wednesday night, May 27, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractor is scheduled to PERMANENTLY close northbound traffic on Oak Brook Drive at the U.S. 80 eastbound frontage road.

Southbound access from the frontage road onto Oak Brook Drive will remain open. Drivers exiting the area should use Peachtree Road south to Gross Road.

🎉Big welcome to Peter Piper Pizza which officially opened today at 11AM!
I had the honor of attending the ribbon cutting yesterday and let me tell you this place is CLEAN, brand NEW, family friendly, and READY for Mesquite residents. One thing that really stood out to me is that they make their dough fresh from scratch daily. You can definitely taste the difference.🍕

💰They also have some really good budget-friendly options for families, including their Summer Pass (which I bought myself for the fam) and birthday party packages starting at just $99! With prices going up everywhere, it’s nice to see more affordable places for families to celebrate, have fun, and make memories right here in our city.🤑

🐔Last night at the town hall, we asked residents for feedback about allowing hens (no roosters) in Mesquite. But with a city of over 157,000 people, having fewer than 50 residents in the room just isn’t enough input for a decision this important.

🥚For years, many residents have asked the City to consider allowing chickens, and the Council is giving it serious consideration. But we need to hear from more of you.

🐥Please take the short survey and share your thoughts. Keep in mind, chickens come with different challenges than dogs or cats, and any change would also require properly funding and training Animal Services to handle the increased responsibilities. Those things go hand in hand.

🐓We represent the will of the people, and your voice matters. Please help us make the best possible decision for Mesquite residents.

🇺🇸 Happy Memorial Day everyone! Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. The holiday began after the Civil War as a way to honor fallen soldiers, and today it stands as a reminder of the tremendous sacrifice made for the freedoms we enjoy every day.

💙 I’ve always had a deep respect for those who serve because military service runs through my family. My grandfather and his brothers served, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and now my brother — all blessed to make it home safely. Today we honor those who didn’t, and we remember the heroes and families who sacrificed so much for our nation.

🎊 Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful holiday. Today we remember them, we honor them, and we are forever grateful.

And when I say affordable housing, I mean QUALITY housing.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 For a long time apartments have gotten a bad reputation. But the reality is for many families, seniors, young professionals and working residents, apartments are the most affordable housing option available. The answer isn’t ignoring housing needs — it’s partnering with quality developers, setting high standards and making sure developments are something our community can be proud of.
That’s exactly what this council has been focused on. We’ve made major investments not only in housing, but also in the roads and infrastructure needed to support growth responsibly. Oates is nearly complete and the full reconstruction of La Prada is officially underway. Those two long overdue projects alone are going to completely transform how residents move around the north side of Mesquite.

👁️‍🗨️ And let me be clear — affordable does NOT mean low standards, and it does NOT mean another Tradewind situation. By being proactive and strategic, we’re creating better housing options while maintaining expectations for quality, safety and long-term upkeep.
This is what leadership looks like: fixing roads, improving infrastructure, expanding amenities and creating better housing opportunities for residents across Mesquite.
