I don’t know about you guys but this sure does look like a timeline to have the North Branch Library closed by January.
🧐

Not to mention we’re closing the library before we even have a plan or funding identified to remodel or expand Florence recreation center to accommodate the new additions. So a few lockers and some computers and books in a few rooms at Florence recreation center and that’s what we would call a library. Thats not acceptable to me and I think it would be a disservice to our residents. If something doesn’t change your looking at the future, right there on paper.

Imagine telling a child that the place where they discovered their love of reading is gone. ❌

Imagine telling a senior who relies on the library for internet access, classes, or simply a place to connect with others that they'll have to travel across town.👵🏼

Imagine telling a student without reliable Wi-Fi at home that completing homework just became even harder.
These aren't hypothetical situations—they're the real consequences being discussed if the North Branch Library closes which is the direction some council members are headed. ⬇️

Libraries are not luxuries. They are one of the few places left where everyone is welcome, regardless of age or income. They provide free books, free internet, free computers, homework assistance, literacy programs, job search resources, meeting space for community groups, and educational opportunities that strengthen our entire city. 📚

Research consistently shows that children who read regularly and have access to books perform better in school. Libraries help improve literacy, support workforce development, bridge the digital divide, and provide safe spaces for learning and community connection. They are one of the best returns on investment a city can make.📈

Once a neighborhood library is closed, it is incredibly difficult—and expensive—to bring it back 💰

I believe the north side of Mesquite deserves investment, not fewer resources. Our residents shouldn't have to drive farther for services that many families, seniors, and students depend on every single day.🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

📧If you believe the North Branch Library should remain open, please don't assume someone else will speak up.

📣 Contact your City Council member.
📣 Contact the City Manager.
📣 Attend meetings.
📣 Share your story about what the North Branch Library has meant to you or your family.
Be respectful, but be heard. Public input matters, especially before decisions are made.

🗣️The future of this library shouldn't be decided in silence. If you want to keep this valuable community resource, now is the time to let your voice be heard.
Please share this post so every resident has the opportunity to participate in the conversation. Together, we can show that the North Branch Library is worth protecting—not just for today, but for future generations.
We have a council meeting tomorrow. Let them know today!
