We are deeply saddened to share that Nell Pearce passed from this life on April 30th.

Nell was a vibrant, energetic force in the Journey of Hope community and a tireless advocate for children’s mental health. Over the years, she served many roles at JOH as a facilitator, board member, program director, event planner, meal provider, and passionate supporter. Her dedication to children and families who are grieving was unwavering, and she poured her heart into every role she held.

Nell brought heartfelt passion to her work. She believed deeply in creating safe spaces for children to express their grief and feel understood. Her creativity, compassion, and fierce commitment helped shape the foundation of Journey of Hope, and her influence is still felt in the lives of those she supported and the group process today.

Whether welcoming a new volunteer, organizing a meal with her Sunday school class, selling Alternative Valentine’s Day cards, or sitting with a child who is grieving, Nell made everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched, and she will be dearly missed. Our hearts are with Dave, Necia, and all her family.

Her service is on Monday, June 2nd at 11am at Christ United Methodist Church.

We invite those who knew and loved Nell to share their stories and memories as we remember the remarkable impact she had on our community.

After almost 27 years of serving families who are grieving, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors. The past two years have been financially challenging for Journey, as it has for many non-profits. As a result of several factors, the board has decided to cease operation effective April 30, 2025. While Journey, as an entity, will no longer exist, our focus is to continue the mission of helping children and families navigate grief. We are actively working with potential sponsor organizations to carry forward some of our key programs, so that Journey’s impact can live on in a different way.

In celebration of the hope and support for the community, we are hosting a closing ceremony on Saturday, April 26th. More details coming soon.

Visit bit.ly/johevent to help us cover the costs associated with this event.

Thank you to all of our supporters, donors, and volunteers for the generous and loving support over the years. It's because of you that we were able to provide hope and healing to thousands of children and families who are grieving navigate their grief journey.
