One of the greatest gifts Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas (BGCD) can provide graduating seniors is a scholarship to assist with their commitment to furthering their education. It is through the generosity of the Dallas community from corporations, foundations and individuals such as you that BGCD is able to offer scholarship opportunities. This year, the 6th Annual Texas Hold’em tournament on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Dallas Contemporary will exclusively benefit the scholarship fund for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas graduating seniors. The tournament is a signature event for BGCD where individuals compete to out-smart, out-bet and out-play fellow players to secure their spot at the top table with fabulous prizes. Evening highlights include professional dealers from Aces Wild, abundant buffet, open bar and live music by Dallas’ own RAY JOHNSTON BAND. Each year, BGCD awards scholarships to graduating seniors enrolling in a college, university, technical school or trade school. Since 1977, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas has awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to members wishing to continue their education. The Collegiate STEPS program is designed to help Dallas area high school students overcome obstacles to become the first member of their families to attend college. Collegiate STEPS involves mentoring students one-on-one by navigating them through the college admissions process and helping them apply for scholarships and financial aid. In the 2009-2010 academic year, 100% of the program’s seniors graduated from high school with over 90% continuing on to college.
