Combs and 9 year old German Sheppard K9 Maxx have been working together for the last 7 1/2 years. Sgt Combs spends more time with Maxx then he does with his family. Maxx goes wherever he goes including vacations when permitted. He has been a great asset to the Village of Wauconda as well as the surrounding police agencies in Northern Illinois . Maxx is trained for a variety of tasks. This includes narcotics detection, tracking, area searches, article searches, handler protection and suspect apprehension. He has assisted in finding lost children, fleeing suspects, finding large and small amounts of narcotics in vehicles, planes and buildings. Maxx has located articles to include weapons, money hidden by fleeing suspects and numerous other things. They have assisted local SWAT teams on perimeters and searching buildings for suspects. They also regularly work with undercover narcotics teams in the Northern Illinois area. Maxx's mere presence has helped deescalate many volatile situations without anyone having to get hurt. Sgt. Combs and K9 Maxx have come in first place 3 times in the annual K9 Olympics. The K9 Olympics test the Officer and K9 in every facet in which they are trained. Maxx can open his own car door and climb ladders. One other great thing about Maxx is his dedication to his family. Combs and K9 Maxx are dedicated to the Village of Wauconda and surrounding communities and that is why I would like them to be considered for the award.

All,

I want to thank everyone who has supported K9 Maxx and I for the last 12 years. I was given a great opportunity in being allowed to be a K9 handler working with Maxx for 10 years. Maxx was a great partner and I loved to take care of him. For 10 years I spent more time with Maxx then I did with family, friends and co-workers. I want to thank my family, Bethany, son Kaden and son Trenton for sacrificing their time, so I could work and train with Maxx. Maxx had the support of the community and the respect from the bad guys. Maxx and I would not have had the success that we did with out the support of all of you, The Wauconda Police Department, all local K9 teams, the Wauconda Village Board, the Citizens of Wauconda, the surrounding Law Enforcement agencies and the schools.

I want to thank Paula and Alex Rothacker (Tops Kennel) for all they have done for my success as well as their staff. Thank you to the Wauconda Animal Hospital, Dr Baumann for the initial support and Dr Nemmers for continuing to support us after she purchased the Hospital, as well as all of her staff. She has donated all services at no cost to the Village of Wauconda or me once Maxx went into retirement. Thank you to Nature Select dog food for donating Maxx's food for the entire time I have had Maxx.

I miss being a K9 Handler and now I will miss Maxx. K9 Maxx passed away at 2330 hours on 09/29/2016. He waited till I came home from work before passing away. I came in the door and he got up and walked over to me. My wife and I were able to spend time with him and comfort him until he passed away. His passing was sudden and he appeared to be in no pain.

Thanks again to all who have supported us all these years.
