What’s Growing Wednesday: Millet

Don’t let its soft, feathery plumes fool you-millet thrives in the Texas heat. This low-maintenance ornamental grass adds beautiful texture to the garden and is a perfect choice for fall installations. Bonus: its unique blooms even give off a subtle scent of maple syrup.

Have you noticed this sweet-smelling grass on your stroll through the garden?

What’s Growing Wednesday: ‘Portora’ Alocasia

This elephant ear variety, ‘Portora’ Alocasia, brings instant tropical vibes to any summer landscape.  With giant leaves reaching 3–4 feet wide and towering heights of 5–7 feet, this vigorous grower thrives in the summer heat. As temperatures cool, it naturally goes dormant for winter. Simply cut it back and cover the bulb with mulch to help insulate it until spring. A reliable choice for adding bold texture and dramatic foliage to the summer garden. Would you add this tropical favorite to your garden?
