Welcome to Y’all Street!

I was proud to join business and community leaders yesterday to celebrate the official opening of the NYSE Texas headquarters at Old Parkland in Dallas.

With more NYSE-listed companies headquartered here than in any other state, Texas has earned its reputation as the nation’s best place to do business. The new headquarters gives NYSE Texas, and the more than 120 companies already dual-listed on the exchange, a permanent home in the heart of our thriving financial community.

As Chair of the House Committee on Trade, Workforce and Economic Development, I am committed to keeping Texas competitive, creating jobs and ensuring businesses of every size have the opportunity to grow and succeed.
NYSE Texas is officially at home on Y’all Street. This is only the beginning!

I know what it means to lose your freedom, because my family lived it.

When communism swept across mainland China, my parents were forced to flee to Taiwan, driven from their home and persecuted for their Christian faith. They arrived with nothing. My family of seven shared a single room, about 300 square feet, built of bamboo and mud, with no kitchen and no bathroom.

We didn't have much. But my parents gave us something far greater than money: they taught us the value of hard work, the power of education, and the belief that where you start does not have to determine where you finish.

That belief carried me across an ocean to America, the land of opportunity, where I earned my degree, built a career, and was blessed to live out the American Dream.
I have never forgotten where I came from. Having seen what it means to live without freedom, I will never stop fighting to protect it, for my neighbors, for our children, and for every Texan who calls this great state home.

Our kids are growing up in a digital world that can expose them to real dangers, from harmful content to online predators who target children right where they spend their time: on their phones.

Parents deserve to be in control of what their children can access. That's why I sponsored and helped pass the App Store Accountability Act, a landmark law that requires age verification and puts parents back in charge. Now kids can't download apps, including social media without a parent's knowledge and consent.

It's common sense: we verify age to buy alcohol or ci******es, and we should take the protection of children just as seriously in the online world. Predators shouldn't have unfettered access to our kids, and no parent should be left in the dark about what their child is doing online.

As a grandmother, keeping Texas children safe will always be one of my highest priorities, and I'll never stop fighting to protect them, online and off.

Here's something most Texans don't know: our state is one of the only states in the country that still taxes business inventory, including the groceries sitting on the shelf and the medicine on the pharmacy counter. And that hidden tax gets passed straight to you at checkout.

As a CPA, I've spent my career fighting to cut taxes and put money back in your pocket. That's why I authored House Bill 4083 to eliminate the inventory tax on food and medication, because families shouldn't be paying a hidden tax on the essentials they need to feed their kids and stay healthy.

Groceries are expensive enough. Prescriptions are expensive enough. Texas shouldn't be quietly making them cost even more. I'm going to keep fighting to get this done and deliver real relief at the grocery store and the pharmacy for the families of District 112.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping our world, and here in Texas, we're not sitting back and letting Washington or Silicon Valley decide how it gets used.

I was proud to help write and pass the Texas Responsible Artificial Intelligence Governance Act, one of the first and strongest state AI laws in the country. Our message is simple: Texas will always welcome innovation, but we will not tolerate the dangerous abuses of this technology.

That means real protection for you and your family:
✅ Your government can't use AI to "socially score" or grade its citizens, the way authoritarian regimes do.
✅ AI can't be built to manipulate people or push anyone toward harm.
✅ AI-generated deepfakes can't be used to exploit or endanger our children.

Texas is proving you can lead the world in technology and protect the people who call this state home. That's the Texas way, and I'll keep working to keep us ahead of the curve and one step ahead of the threats.

Not every path to a great career runs through four years of college and a mountain of student debt, and I'm working to make sure our kids have more options.

I support expanding career and technical training and paid apprenticeships, so students across our district and state can earn a paycheck while they learn valuable skills that will allow them to step directly into a good-paying job without owing tens of thousands of dollars in student debt. It's a smart path for a lot of young people, and it's exactly the kind of practical, opportunity-first thinking we need in Austin.

As a CPA, I understand what debt does to a young person just starting out their life. As Chair of the House Committee on Trade, Workforce & Economic Development, I'm in a position to connect Texas students with the training that leads to real careers: health care, IT, advanced manufacturing, and the skilled trades that keep our economy moving.

Our kids deserve every opportunity to build a strong future. I'm fighting to make sure a debt-free path to a great career is one of them.

I know what rising costs do to a small business, because I can read the books.

I'm a Certified Public Accountant and I've spent my career in the numbers, and I understand something a lot of politicians don't: when taxes, fees, and red tape keep climbing, it's the local small business, the family restaurant, the corner shop, the Main Street startup, that feels it first. Those businesses are the backbone of our communities, and they deserve a fighter who actually understands their bottom line.

That's exactly what I've worked to be. As Chair of the House Committee on Trade, Workforce & Economic Development and a member of the tax-writing Ways & Means Committee, I've fought to cut the costs and clear the barriers that hold our job creators back. When our small businesses thrive, our whole community thrives. I'll keep standing up for the entrepreneurs and hardworking families who make North Texas go, and keep fighting to stop the rising costs squeezing them.

Because I'm not guessing at the numbers. I'm a CPA. I know them.
