Toastmasters Founder Dr.Ralph C.Smedley

Here is a direct message from the founder of Toastmasters International, an organization which is now over 90 years old. I want you to understand, that so many things have changed about Toastmasters since then, especially the fact that Toastmasters is no longer only for the men. Yipee!! Oh, but we have come a long, long way since then.
As you can see from the write up below, Toastmasters is now a very much inclusive organization and it is constantly evolving and growing. I wonder what Mr. Smedley would say, were he here today.
Belonging to Toastmasters is something that you can be proud of, because you can achieve so much. You can climb your way up to the very top of the mountain if you want to, you can reach up and touch the sky. You can become a champion here at Toastmasters, setting goals and then finding that the tools to achieve them will be readily available to you. You can expect encouragement and guidance every step of the way,one evaluation at a time. Last, you can forever slay the dragons of fear and doubt from your mind, because you will learn that they really didn't have as much power as you thought and you will do all of this, one speech at a time.

Ralph C. Smedley (February 22, 1878 – September 11, 1965)
was the founder of Toastmasters International, an international speaking organization with more than 313,000 members in 126 countries and more than individual 14,650 clubs.

Monday’s meeting, the first of the year felt fresh. It was energetic, stimulating and brand new. Could it be that we were all well rested, or did we all come with some new year’s resolution in mind? If indeed, you have ever made a commitment to better your speaking or social skills, then join us next Monday at 1830. It matters not if you made this commitment long ago, or on December 31st like so many of us. We would love to see you. We know that your initial energy may be tinged with fear, we understand because we have all been there. But imagine how much less fearful, how confident , how dynamic your energy could feel next new year when Trinity Toastmasters makes a similar post.
Hope to see you soon.

The photos below, show Jane Terrell (Toastmaster for the evening) awarding ribbons, certificates and prizes to the winners of the Who Told It Best and Who Sold It Best Contests. Pictured left, is Roger Simpson (with an assist from his lovely wife Jill), winner of the Who Sold It Best Contest. He sold an everyday item in the Style of a Used Car Salesman. As instructed, Roger made his speech real cheesy, therefore he was rewarded with a generous supply of delicious cheeseballs.
Pictured right, is Kim Crandall, winner of the Who Told It Best contest, for telling us about a very Dead Duck. She told her story in the style of a Mad Hatter and was awarded with some appropriate costumery.
If you are in the area, please come and have fun with us here at Trinity Toastmasters. We love to laugh and we love to learn and we love, love, love visitors. We meet every Monday at 1830.

This is what we at Toastmasters want you to know:
You don’t have to be a great speaker to join. Most of us joined because we had some challenges we needed to work on, with regards to public speaking. Listen to Sheila Sutherland’s reason for joining. She calls it #MyWhy

Kendra Dove won this beautiful ribbon for her Icebreaker Speech tonight. The Icebreaker speech is the first, get to know you speech that every Toastmaster gives. The ribbon means she did a great job and was recognized as having the best speech for the night. Oh and that’s our dear Tom, photo bombing the moment to give a thumbs up!

I can’t think of any place I’d rather be on a Monday evening than with my fellow Toastmasters. (Ok I missed my favorite guilty pleasure which is watching the Bachelorette but I can always catch that later.)

Check out our stunningly gorgeous venue!!!

Gilbert Ybarra and Betty D'arcy gave rousing and informative speeches. Danny Proulx was the Toastmaster for the evening (that means he took his turn of running the whole meeting start to finish.)

If you talk to Gilbert and many other Toastmasters, they will tell you that, in the beginning, they were deathly afraid of public speaking, now they speak with pride, power and prowess (ok that third word was a stretch but I needed another p word.) My point is this:
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A GREAT SPEAKER TO JOIN TOASTMASTERS. In my club, new members are nurtured, and everyone can go at a speed they are comfortable at. So don’t think you have to be some great orator walking through the door. Toastmasters is here to help you develop those skills.

Ok enough of me rambling on now...bottom line, I enjoyed the meeting this evening as always, we learned and WE HAD FUN.

This is fellow Toastmaster Adele Jamnik Alexandre from Boca Raton. She says hello and invites us all to her club if we are ever in her neck of the woods. I love how welcoming other Toasties are. This picture was taken after her speech, demonstrating her work as s storyteller and clown. She is proof positive that Toastmasters can also be big fun. Don’t believe me, come see for yourself.

08/02/2018

If you are reading this message and would like to visit our club inbox me or just comment below. I will personally arrange to meet you at the door and sit with you. I just don’t want “but I don’t know anyone” to be a reason to hold you back. I personally guarantee that when we walk through the door into the conference room, we will be greeted by most, if not all of the club members. WE LOVE VISITORS AND IT SHOWS. Come see for yourself.

Pathways Sample path

If you have ever been a Toastmaster before, you will know that Pathways is a new program. As with any change, there may be a learning curve, heck I still remember when my grandmother in England had to change her money denomination, from shillings and pence to the decimal system. Trust me, she wasn’t too happy about it lol.
So what is Pathways anyway? Well here is a short video that may help to create a visual as well as an understanding, Each path, has the communication (speech) and leadership elements combined. It is also computer based not book based. I believe that, in time, we all will wonder how we ever did it any other way.
