Seidel Chapter Dallas 232 of the Air Force Association

Seidel Chapter Dallas 232 of the Air Force Association The Seidel Chapter of the Air Force Association is a non profit organization dedicated to promote a dominant United States Air Force and a strong national defense, and to honor Airmen and our Air Force Heritage.
(1)

Locally, the Seidel chapter concentrates its efforts on supporting scientific, technical, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. Specifically, the chapter supports the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) squadrons in the area, providing scholarships to deserving cadets as they learn to fly powered aircraft and gliders. This support has been in existence for nearly 15 years. In addition to CAP, the chapter annually awards a scholarship to the local winner of the Earle North Parker Essay Contest. Our local winner then competes against other chapters’ candidates at the State level, with the winner there earning a $5,000 scholarship. The chapter also conducts a Teacher of the Year contest, seeking to find the elementary, middle or secondary school teacher who has “gone the extra mile” to interest his/her students in STEM subjects. The winner of our local contest receives a cash award, and is entered into competition at the State level, where a larger cash award can be earned, and the winner at that level is entered into a National Teacher of the Year contest, awarded annually at the AFA National Convention in Washington, DC. Finally, the chapter is participating in a fairly new program, known as Cyber Patriot, which involves high school students in teams to compete at the national level for awards in the field of cyber defense. More information about the Cyber Patriot program may be obtained here.

Last year the Seidel Chapter resolved to establish an annual program to provide college scholarships to the outstanding AFJROTC graduates from the seven high schools in our area which offer AFJROTC programs, who intend to enroll in ROTC in college. In recognition of the lifetime of service that Congressman (Colonel, Ret) Sam Johnson gave to his country and his membership in the Seidel Chapter, the scholarships are named

AFA Seidel Chapter Sam Johnson AFJROTC Scholarships.

One graduate from each of the seven high schools was selected by their instructors to receive a $1000 scholarship. Each student was then asked to submit an application which was judged by a panel of Seidel Chapter members to select one of the seven for an additional $5000 scholarship.

We've selected the recipients and since it's not possible to award the scholarships in person, we'll do it via Zoom.

US Air Force Civil Engineers

For over 70 years, Civil Engineers have led the way in building the U.S. Air Force into the most dominant Air Force in the world.

This video captures the enormous contributions of those who are a part of the Civil Engineering career field: Engineers, EOD Technicians, Firefighters, Emergency Managers, and more, who build, maintain, and enhance our Air Force installations each and every day.

Without them, there would be no Air Force.

Engineers…Lead the Way!

AFA-Seidel: Events

Message from Seidel Chapter President
Hello Seidel AFA Chapter members and friends. We have started 2018 with high energy and lots of success!

Our Chapter is rapidly moving forward with the objective to increase our membership participation as well as recruit new members. We are developing exciting programs and alternate opportunities to support our members and as we continue to embrace the key mission elements of the Air Force Association.
Our Chapter is anxious to continue to expand community outreach opportunities. Thus far this year we selected our Teacher of the Year, Michael Yakubovsky of Coppell High School; interviewed and selected 11 Youth Leader Conference (YLC) students to attend leadership camp; and we have provided scholarships for four cadets to the Texas Wing CAP Glider Flight Academy flight training this summer. We also are engaged with the Air Force JROTC units in our area recognizing outstanding students. I anticipate these efforts are just the beginning of our outreach and community involvement as the year progresses. Of course, we need to increase our membership participation to enable further community expansion.

We have several opportunities for you to support your Chapter.
Chapter communications: If you would like to support our Website and pages, please let us know.
Membership Outreach: Our membership outreach team needs your support to periodically contact our members. This is a key and rewarding opportunity!
Membership Participation: We are also exploring new membership participation opportunities to include a Seidel Chapter Golf Tournament. Let us know if you would enjoy joining this team!
Executive Committee Members: We meet monthly to plan and manage the business of our Chapter. We need your help as we grow and expand our involvement into our communities!

On a sadder note, we lost one of our long-time members and a strong AFA supporter in March, Colonel Jim Wolfe. Colonel Wolfe was an active member of our Executive Committee and provided excellent guidance and support to our Chapter. We will greatly miss Jim!

Our next Membership meeting is planned for June 27th at 1130 at the Gleneagles Country Club: 5401 W Park Blvd, Plano, TX 75093. In addition to enjoying a great lunch at a first class facility with free valet parking, we will receive an outstanding presentation from Lt Gen (USAF, Ret) John Campbell on:
"The Heroes of Roberts Ridge: Predator in Afghanistan 2000-2002"
The story of the evolution of the armed Predator Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and how it saved American lives in the Battle of Roberts Ridge.

This exciting and informative presentation will hold you on the edge of your seat as you learn how drones were used early in combat roles! We are anticipating a full house for this event! Additionally, we are offering special pricing for our CAP squadron cadets and our uniformed scouts and their leaders that support our flag program.

Please make your reservations today: www.afadallas.org/events.htm
Be sure to invite you friends and neighbors. You will not be disappointed!! If you need a ride to the meeting, please let us know.
I will look forward to hearing from you and discussing exciting ways to engage and support our communities and the AFA mission. Be sure to visit our web page: http://www.afadallas.org and like our page: https://www.facebook.com/SeidelDallasChapter232AirForceAssociation
I will see you and your friends at our June 27th meeting.
