Help Build the Budget 🏗️

Last time I showed you where your tax dollar comes from and goes. Now it's your turn to weigh in on what's not currently in the budget.

There are really two different kinds of requests on the table, and they work differently:

1️⃣ One-Time Purchases — vehicles, equipment, street repairs. Buy them once, done. These can be paid for out of the City's savings, without a bill next year.

2️⃣ Recurring Costs — new staff and ongoing contracts. These come back every single year. The City's ongoing revenue is projected to run about $680,000 ahead of ongoing costs. Everything on flyer 2 has to fit inside, permanently.

Take a look at both. You can't fund everything on either one.

**Glenn Heights City Budget — Part 1 📊**

I normally include updates like this in my newsletter, but I’m trying something new and sharing it here on as well.

I’ll be breaking down the City’s budget into a few easy-to-follow posts so residents can see where our dollars are going, how the City is funded, and what we’re working toward.

A few highlights:

📊 Most of your City tax dollar (about 52 cents of every General Fund dollar) goes to Police & Fire.

🏠 The proposed tax rate is $0.590821 per $100 of home value — that's about $591/year on a $100,000 home.

🐾 The new animal shelter is being paid for with savings, not a tax increase.

💧 Heads up: rising regional wastewater treatment costs may mean a conversation about water/sewer rates soon.

✅ The City's savings account remains healthy and well above the minimum required.

This is still a proposed budget. City Council begins workshops this weekend before anything is finally adopted so if something here raises a question for you, now's the time to ask it.

🚧 Road work update...🚧

Take a look at this drone view from Ovilla Road and Uhl Rd. You can really see the progress as our new four-lane roadway continues to come together.

The concrete crews are hard at work today, so traffic is down to one lane in the area. Please pack your patience and maybe your favorite playlist as good roads aren't built overnight. 🎵

Just remember: every minute you spend waiting now is one less minute you'll spend sitting in traffic later. Thanks for hanging in there while we build a better Glenn Heights!
