Tonight, the people of Polk County made their decision, and while this was not the outcome we hoped for, I respect the will of the voters and congratulate my opponent.

I want to sincerely thank my wife Malia, my family, friends, volunteers, and every supporter who stood beside me throughout this campaign. Your encouragement and belief in me meant more than I can express.

This campaign was about service to our community. From my years in the Army, law enforcement, and now as a Dallas City Councilor, I have always believed leadership means listening to people, working hard, and putting the community first.

Although tonight’s result was not what we hoped for, my commitment to Polk County remains unchanged. Public service does not end with an election.

Thank you again for your trust, support, and friendship. It has been an honor to stand before you as a candidate for Polk County Commissioner.

God bless you, and God bless Polk County.

Carlos

As ballots are counted on May 19, I want to sincerely thank the people of Polk County for the support, encouragement, and kindness shown to me throughout this campaign for County Commissioner Position 3.

This journey has been about far more than politics. It has been about meeting good people, listening to your stories, and working together for the future of our communities. Every conversation, handshake, and word of encouragement meant more to me than you know.

Thank you to my family, friends, volunteers, and everyone who believed in me along the way. No matter the outcome, it has been an honor to serve and stand beside the citizens of Polk County.

Most importantly, thank you for voting and participating in the future of our county.

Aloha everyone! Malia and I experienced incredible warmth and hospitality during our week in Maui. Each morning we awoke to the peaceful sounds of native birds, which made for a relaxing start to every day. With a population of around 158,000 residents, Maui offers a much slower pace than Oahu, something we truly appreciated during our stay.

Everywhere we went, the hospitality and accommodations were warm and welcoming. We enjoyed the beauty, culture, and peaceful atmosphere that make Hawaii such a special place.

All in all, Maui was a wonderful experience, but it’s always nice coming back home to Dallas. Warm regards to everyone, and we hope you are all doing well.

Yesterday, my entire family gathered for a very special occasion. Malia, Antonio, and I celebrated my daughter Anne’s graduation from George Fox University. Anne is continuing the Barrientos tradition of service to others. She recently completed her master’s degree in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling.

Anne has always been a good friend to others and someone willing to listen with an open mind to people facing difficult challenges in life. We are incredibly proud of Anne’s accomplishment and her dedication to helping individuals, couples, and families in need. Her compassion, professionalism, and commitment to improving the lives of others will undoubtedly make a positive difference in many people’s lives.

Congratulations, Anne. Your family is proud of you and the path of service you have chosen.

Another year older, and hopefully another year wiser. With age comes a different perspective on life. I’ve come to realize just how short and valuable our time really is.

Family and friends are what truly add meaning and quality to our lives. And along the way, I’ve learned not to sweat the small stuff—and not to hold on to grudges.

To my family, friends, and neighbors—thank you for making today so special. May 5, 1964

To my friends, neighbors, and supporters,

I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you who supported my campaign for Polk County Commissioner.

This journey has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. From the many conversations at your doorsteps, to the encouragement at community events, to the kind words, advice, and support along the way—each of you made a lasting impact on me. You reminded me why I chose a life of public service and why Polk County is such a special place to live, work, and raise a family.

Campaigns are not won or lost by one person alone. They are built on relationships, trust, and a shared commitment to the future of our community. I am incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and belief you invested in me and in this effort.

No matter the outcome, my commitment to Polk County remains the same. I will continue to listen, to serve, and to work toward strengthening our communities and improving the quality of life for all who call this county home.

Thank you for standing with me, for believing in this campaign, and for being part of this journey.

With respect and appreciation,
Carlos Barrientos

Can’t pass up another opportunity to go door to door and make citizen contacts before the campaign ends.

Today’s good weather gave me the chance to speak with people working in their yards, relaxing outside, and enjoying this beautiful Oregon day. One thing I continue to hear is that many residents are not familiar with who their county commissioners are or the important role commissioners play in county government. That makes these conversations even more valuable.

One contact stood out today. A Polk County resident was doing some woodworking while following an NHL playoff game. I asked if he was watching my favorite team, the Boston Bruins. He said he was watching the Bruins because his nephew plays for them — and that his nephew was the only player ever drafted out of Las Vegas, Nevada.

We ended the conversation with a thank you and a shared, “Go Bruins!”

These are the kinds of conversations that make door-to-door campaigning so meaningful.

Today’s door-to-door conversations reminded me why I decided to run for Polk County Commissioner. Each interaction offered a new perspective on what our community expects from its elected officials. I heard concerns about quality of life and frustration with the conduct of leadership—people expect better, and they deserve it. As your Polk County Commissioner, I will work as hard as you do to manage county affairs in an open, transparent, and efficient manner.
