This week (May 17–23) is National Public Works Week! From maintaining roads and utilities to caring for parks, managing emergencies, and keeping public spaces safe and welcoming, public works professionals are the backbone of our communities.

These dedicated crews wear many hats — sometimes literally — and their work often happens behind the scenes, yet impacts our daily lives in countless ways. Transportation, wastewater, parks & recreation, forestry, fleet services, building maintenance, and emergency management all work together to keep our cities and towns running smoothly.

At Tarrywile Park we are especially grateful for all those who help maintain the infrastructure and public spaces that keep our community vibrant, beautiful, and accessible for everyone.

Thank you to all Public Works crews for everything you do!

Today is National Love a Tree Day - and no better place to express your love than hiking around Tarrywile Park! Most species of trees tend to be long-lived. Some trees live to be several thousand years old. According to the U.S. Forest Service, about 766 million acres of forest land exists in the United States. This number has held steady since 2012. Between 1630 and 1910, there was a steady decline from 1,023 million acres to 754 million acres. That's a decline from 46 percent to 34 percent of the total land area of the United States. So while loving the trees at Tarrywile it's not a bad time to plant a tree for future generations to love as well!
