The members of Danbury VFW Post 149 send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Commander-in-Chief Ed Banas on his passing. Commander Banas was a tremendous leader within the VFW and, even after his tenure as Commander-in-Chief, remained instrumental in guiding and mentoring leadership at the Department level.

Post 149 and outgoing Commander Rivas had the honor of spending time with Commander Banas, learning from his wisdom, leadership, and dedication to veterans. His guidance made a lasting impact on Commander Rivas and his leadership at the Post, District, and Department levels.

In this photo, Commander Banas is pictured on the left presenting VFW Post 149 with a delegate medal from a State Convention dating back to the 1930s — once again showing the immense knowledge, pride, and history he carried with him throughout his years of service to the VFW.

Commander Banas will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Rest in Peace, Commander Banas.

Last night marked an exciting moment for Republicans in Danbury.

The newly elected Danbury Republican Town Committee held its first meeting at the Portuguese Cultural Center, and the energy in the room was incredible.

With a packed room and tremendous enthusiasm, it was clear that Republicans across our city are ready to get to work. The meeting opened with Sergeant-at-Arms Bill Katzing leading the Pledge of Allegiance, and was guided by Interim Chairman Michael Coelho as the committee begins organizing for the important work ahead.

The full committee came together for the first time with the 34 members elected on Row C, along with Emile Buzaid from Row B, who filled the final open seat.

The committee was also pleased to welcome the first guest speaker from Erin Stewart’s gubernatorial campaign, who shared part of her vision for Connecticut and the path forward to defeating Governor Ned Lamont, ahead of the Republican State Convention in May.

What began as the Danbury Republican Alliance — an exciting grassroots movement that brought together engaged Republicans across our city — is now transitioning into the official Danbury Republican Town Committee. The same energy, teamwork, and determination that built the Alliance will now guide the committee as we move forward.

We look forward to welcoming and hearing from all the candidates looking to serve Danbury. 🐘🇺🇸

Thank you, Danbury Republicans for your trust and support! 🇺🇸

Danbury Republican Alliance Wins Town Committee Primary

Danbury, Connecticut — Republican voters in Danbury elected the Row C slate of the Danbury Republican Alliance to serve on the Danbury Republican Town Committee in Tuesday’s primary.
Michelle Coelho, Chair of the Danbury Republican Alliance and former member of the Danbury Board of Education, thanked Republican voters and volunteers who participated in the election.
“This was a true grassroots effort built on hard work, door knocking and direct conversations with Republican voters throughout Danbury,” Coelho said. “Our team is grateful for the trust placed in us and we are ready to get to work for all the people of the great City of Danbury.”
“The turnout we saw was incredible,” said the Danbury Republican Alliance. “Even with the weather conditions, voters showed up. Participation was roughly three times what we would typically expect in a race of this size, which is very encouraging for the future of the party in Danbury.”
Coelho also acknowledged the opposing slate and emphasized the importance of unity moving forward.
“It was a hard-fought campaign, and I want to recognize the Row B slate for running a strong race,” Coelho said. “Primaries can be competitive, but now the focus turns to bringing Republicans together and continuing the work of strengthening our party in Danbury.”
The Alliance also expressed appreciation for the support and endorsements received during the campaign, including from the Connecticut Young Republicans.
With the primary concluded, the newly elected committee members said their focus will turn to strengthening the Danbury Republican Town Committee, expanding outreach across the community, and supporting Republican candidates in upcoming elections.
