The Journey Program

The Journey Program Activities will focus on factors such as self-esteem, respect, relationships, academics, and life skills.

The Journey Program is a series of classes for at-risk or court-involved high school students to reconnect students to their school and to teach accountability for their actions while addressing family, personal, school, and economic factors that lead to truancy or other delinquency. In addition to the life skills class, there will be one overnight trip at no cost to the participant. The Journey P

rogram completion is point-based, and points are determined by the students' performance and participation in class while maintaining positive school attendance.

Last night, we celebrated our Journey Graduation, and what a special evening it was! Each mentor group gave a presentation, and they did an incredible job sharing the topics they covered and what they’ve learned along the way. It’s always inspiring to hear their growth in their own words.
The night was also a little bittersweet, as all but one of our mentors will be graduating from Carson Newman 🦅next week. We are so proud of each of them and grateful for the impact they’ve made on our participants and this program.
We also had the honor of recognizing our 2026 Mentor of the Year, Dru Seymour! Dru was voted on by her fellow mentors and staff for her dedication, her willingness to support others, and the guidance she provides to our participants. She truly represents the heart of Journey.
Thank you to everyone who made this night so meaningful—we are so proud of this group and excited to see what’s ahead for each of them. 💚💙

We had an incredible Journey Excursion Day at Clapp Farms! 🌿🎯
TWRA officers kicked off the day by teaching our participants archery skills—such a fun and unique experience that challenged focus, patience, and confidence.
After that, Tommy Clapp led our group through three engaging team-building activities that had everyone working together, laughing, and stepping outside their comfort zones.
And of course, we couldn’t leave without a little friendly competition—we wrapped up the day with some volleyball! 🏐
Days like this remind us how powerful hands-on experiences and strong mentorship can be. So grateful for everyone who helped make today special! 💚

TWO more busy weeks of Journey! 💚✨
We have packed so much into the last few weeks!
🚒Lt. Rayburn with Jefferson City Fire Department joined us to teach CPR, Stop the Bleed, and provide real-life information about responding to emergencies and what happens to our bodies when we make unhealthy or risky choices.
Our participants created vision boards with their mentors, and we spent a full Saturday focused on life skills!
🍳 Joshlin Sears taught the group how to make French toast, pancakes, and eggs any way they like them.
🥋 Trooper Kadron Bullington, TWRA Officer Justin Pinkston, and Vee Lopez led self-defense instruction.
💵 Real Life Living spent the afternoon teaching budgeting, monthly expenses, and how to make financial choices while navigating life’s unexpected curveballs.
🚔 Trooper Toby Cameron taught changing a flat tire, and participants also learned basic home repair skills.
Thanks to Leeper Hardware, our participants were gifted tire gauges, drain snakes, whistles, and measuring cups for completing their skills course!
😀Today, Jessica with Muse Esthetics led a wonderful discussion on self-care, covering everything from basic hygiene to skincare.
🌡Dru also led a meaningful discussion about how we respond to stress through fight, flight, freeze, or fawn responses. Mentors worked one-on-one with participants to help them recognize triggers and identify coping skills that work best for them.
We’re not done yet!
➡️ Thursday: Ret. Scott Winstead joins us
➡️ Saturday: Our Excursion Day at Clapp Farms!
We are so proud of how much these students have grown this session and can’t wait to finish strong! 💚

Two weeks into the Journey Spring session, we’ve already explored personality types, communication skills, stereotyping, healthy relationships, and the risks associated with alcohol and drug use.

Tonight we celebrated our Journey Program graduates, and the mentor group did an outstanding job with their presentations. Watching these young people grow in confidence, character, and purpose over the past weeks has been such a privilege.

So proud of every single graduate tonight. Keep going — your story is just getting started. 🌟

Some people show up once. Others keep showing up — again and again.

Retired Sgt. Scott Winstead has faithfully come to our Journey sessions time after time, pouring into our group and sharing pieces of his story. His honesty, wisdom, and willingness to be real about life’s challenges makes a lasting impact on every student in the room. Thank you Scott!

And thank you Toby for swinging by and checking in and sharing some advice with in our group.

Today our group had an eye-opening experience thanks to TWRA Officer Justin Pinkston and THP Trooper Toby Cameron.
They led participants through a drunk goggles obstacle course, demonstrated field sobriety tests, and had an honest discussion about the very real dangers of driving a vehicle or operating a boat under the influence.
Officer Pinkston and Trooper Cameron spoke candidly about the impact alcohol and drug abuse has on our community and encouraged our students to always reach out to someone before making a decision that could change lives forever.
We are so grateful for these officers taking the time to invest in our group and share their knowledge and experience. 🚔
