So much creativity and fun in library centers so far! 🎲📚 It may look like play, but there’s a LOT of learning happening!

Our library centers give students something they don’t always get enough of: time to play, explore, create, and figure things out together. Research shows that play supports executive functioning, problem-solving, creativity, self-regulation, cooperation, and social skills.

When students build, create, negotiate rules, solve problems, and work through disagreements during free play, they’re practicing skills that extend far beyond the library. Sometimes the best learning happens when kids are given the freedom to play and discover. 💡🤝❤️ Play isn’t “just play”—it’s practice for life.

Our 6th graders put their creativity, communication, and teamwork to the test during library centers! One group worked together to design and build an impressive tower, proving that sometimes the best learning happens when students are given the opportunity to create, problem-solve, and learn from one another.

It’s always exciting to see our library become a space where reading, collaboration, and creativity come together!

Kindergarten library centers!

After we read a fun story and talked about what libraries are, kindergarteners got to begin playing with our STEAM centers! Their favorite center was probably building and showing their creations to our library bearded dragon, Sunny! 🐉

I spy some Little John readers 💚💚💚

YELL COUNTY LIBRARY AWARDS TOP READERS

On Friday, July 31, 2026, the Yell County Library presented awards to the top readers in the Summer Reading Program. Each top reader received a certificate, gift cards from local restaurants and a prize. These kids not only reached their summer reading goal, they worked extra hard and read the most books/pages in their age category! We are so proud of their dedication and love of books!
