We at Honor Flight of the Quad Cities were saddened more than you can know, to hear of the passing of our dear friend Art. We are thankful for his selfless contribution of time and effort to support Honor Flight. His passing has left an empty space that we will never be able to entirely fill. As a Vet who defended our nation, it was our privilege to have him as one of our 5,000 honored veterans on an Honor Flight. But of course he was such a part of all of our 50 flights in so many ways.

We are also thankful for his family and friends, who supported him before, during, and after his military service. A wise person once said: “Those who put on the uniform are our knights of old, and our heroes of today, and our hope for the future.”

Visitation for Art Petersen will be Thursday, April 29 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries funeral home -- View his full obituary -- http://www.hmdfuneralhome.com/obituary/ArthurArt-Petersen.

Although the exact dates are not yet available, they will be announced as soon as possible. It is hoped that flights will begin sometime during the fall of 2021.

When the final “green light” is given for the 51st Honor Flight, Veterans and Guardians who are eligible will be contacted by phone.

April 16th Honor Flight postponed due to COVID-19

In consideration of the CDC’s guidance and the serious nature of the public health threat posed by COVID-19, the National Board of Honor Flight has issued a mandatory postponement of all Honor Flight trips effective immediately. This includes the Quad Cities flight of April 16th.

On March 10, 2020, the National Board held an emergency meeting concerning this developing situation and discussed the CDC’s recently issued advisory that adults over the age of 60 are particularly at risk of infection and should avoid all non-essential air travel.

All flights are special. All veterans are special, and are so very appreciated for their sacrifice and service. David "Woody" Woods has been an integral part of the success of HFQC as a board member since the beginning. Woody, we can't thank you enough for your service, sacrifice and dedication. --Your fellow board members and friends.

After helping organize 49 Honor Flights through the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, David Woods got to experience one for the first time as a veteran.

Directors of Honor Flight of the Quad Cities attended this event.
My name is JudyAnn Morse. I am the Pastor of the First United Church of Christ in Burlington, Iowa. I am contacting you today with the sad news of the passing of Mark Wegener, who was honored as the 4000th veteran to take the Honor Flight. Mark has been a valued member of our church for many years, and his wisdom and dedication to our Lord will be missed by our congregation. A Celebration of Life is planned for Mark Wegener on what would have been his 100th birthday....... Saturday, July 25th at 1:00 in our church which is located at 611 Columbia Street. If you wish to send a representative to the service who would like to say a few words in Mark's honor, I would be most happy to include you in the service. You may respond by email, or by calling me at (319) 759-8973. Thank you for your kind attention to this email. I look forward to your early response.
