People are impersonating law enforcement agencies telling individuals that they must pay money because they have an arrest warrant or accused committing crimes.

THIS IS A SCAM!

Scammers are calling people and pretending to be from Minnesota courts or law enforcement agencies. In some cases, they “spoof” the law enforcement telephone number so it looks like you are receiving a call from the court or from a law enforcement agency.

In these calls, the scammer says you must pay a fine because you have an arrest warrant. They will try to keep you on the phone. The scammer might ask for your credit card number or suggest some other way to pay the fine (meet with cash, VENMO, Coinstar) to avoid jail time. These communications are fraudulent.

If you receive a call asking you to pay a fine because of an arrest warrant:

* Do not give out your credit card number or make any payment!
* Do not share any personal information, such as your social security number.
* Report the call to your local law enforcement agency if you gave out personal information

🎄❤️Shop with a Cop 2025 🎄❤️

This year’s Shop with a Cop was a HUGE success, bringing joy and excitement to 8 local children and their families.

A gift of a food basket with potatoes, pie, Jennio’s turkey and much more were given to each family also.

Thanks to the support of our community, kids were able to enjoy a special Christmas shopping experience filled with smiles and lasting memories. We are incredibly grateful for everyone who donated to make this program possible. Your kindness truly made a difference!

Montevideo Police Department Press Release

On December 17, 2025, the Montevideo Police Department arrested an adult male on felony charges in connection with a drive-by shooting involving an occupied residence. The individual has not yet had an initial court appearance.

The Montevideo Police Department understands the concern these incidents have caused within our community and wants to reassure residents that multiple reported drive-by and related shooting incidents are being investigated. Ensuring the safety of our community remains our highest priority.

We are grateful for the strong collaboration and support from the CEE VI Drug/Gang Task Force, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, MN DNR, MN BCA, and other partnering agencies. Their dedication and teamwork play a vital role in helping keep our community safe.

Montevideo Police Department is hosting our annual Shop with a Cop event, and we need your support to make it a success. We'll be pairing local children with officers for a special holiday shopping experience that helps build positive relationships.

Every donation goes directly toward providing children with warm clothing, school supplies, and special gifts they might not otherwise receive.

We had so much fun at the Trunk or Treat event on Halloween night! The costumes were amazing and had such a great time handing out candy and meeting everyone!

Thank you Minnesota Veterans Home-Montevideo for hosting National Coffee with a Cop Day. Everyone enjoyed the treats from Casey's and The Rivers Restaurant plus an informative presentation from Minnwest Bank. It was a great morning with lots of coffee and conversation.
