This Crime Prevention Week, we want to remind you that a few simple precautions can help prevent burglaries while you're away:

• Request a Vacation House Check – If your residence is served by the Regional Dispatch Center, we can perform periodic checks of your home while you're away, helping to deter crime and giving you peace of mind.
• Lock doors and windows before leaving.
• Hold mail and deliveries or ask a neighbor to collect them.
• Use timers for lights to make it look like someone's home.
• Notify a trusted neighbor to watch for anything unusual.

This service is available to residents in Clayton, Clay Township, Dayton, Germantown, German Township, Harrison Township, Jefferson Township, Miamisburg, Perry Township, Phillipsburg, Trotwood, Washington Township, and Verona.

A split-second response can make all the difference.

On May 22, Deputy John Ashworth responded to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds for a medical emergency involving the Mayor of Trotwood. When he arrived, she was not breathing and had no pulse.

Deputy Ashworth immediately jumped in to assist with CPR, providing chest compressions as bystanders and first responders worked together to provide life-saving care. An AED was also used, and the combined efforts of everyone on scene helped give the Mayor a chance at survival.

For his role in that life-saving response, Deputy Ashworth was recently honored with Premier Health's Cardiac Save Award.

The award recognized the incredible team effort that day, including the 911 caller, bystander CPR and AED efforts, Deputy Ashworth, and first responders from Jefferson Township and Trotwood fire departments.

We are proud to see Deputy Ashworth recognized for his quick action, compassion and commitment to serving our community.

Facebook Marketplace and other online buying and selling platforms can be convenient, but it's important to think about your safety before meeting someone in person.

Many law enforcement agencies offer Safe Exchange Zones—designated areas that are well-lit and under video surveillance to provide a safer location for online transactions. Check with your local police department to see if a Safe Exchange Zone is available in your community.

When meeting someone for an online transaction:

• Meet in a public place and avoid meeting at your home or the other person's residence.
• Bring a friend or let someone you trust know where you're going.
• Meet during daylight hours when possible.
• Be cautious of unusual payment requests, overpayments or requests to send money back.
• Trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, leave.

Taking a few extra precautions can make a significant difference. Plan ahead, stay alert and prioritize your safety during every transaction.

This community discussion will focus on district operations, community engagement initiatives, crime prevention efforts, and other Sheriff's Office Services provided to residents.

Deputy Kidwell recently joined Officer Turner with the Centerville Police Department for a fun Touch-a-Truck visit at White Picket Playhouse!

The kids had the chance to get an up-close look at the vehicles and learn a little more about what we do.

Deputy Trevor Good recently joined the Jefferson Township Fire Department for an unexpected rescue after resident Davion called for help when flooding began to fill the animal enclosure in his backyard.

The chickens and rabbits were thankfully safe, but the rising water posed a danger to the ducks, who were confined to the flooded enclosure and needed to be moved to safety.

Deputy Good and the fire department quickly stepped in to help, getting the ducks out of harm's way.

Thankfully, the ducks are safe — and this is just another reminder that when our community calls, our deputies and local first responders are always ready to help, no matter who needs it.

Even if they happen to have feathers and webbed feet.

We're so grateful for all of our MCSO K9s and the important work they do alongside our deputies. Their dedication, loyalty and hard work make them an invaluable part of our team. K9 Kirk is serving up some serious style today — and those sunglasses are definitely working for him!
