Tomorrow is International Overdose Awareness Day.

United Services invites everyone to **wear purple or an IOAD T-shirt** and place a purple light bulb in a porch light, window, office, or other visible space.

Purple honors those lost to overdose, supports the people and families affected, and reminds those working toward recovery that they are not alone.

A small display of purple can help begin an important conversation. 💜

Behind every overdose statistic is a person who was loved—a child, parent, sibling, partner, friend, or neighbor.

As International Overdose Awareness Day approaches, we remember those whose lives were lost and acknowledge the grief carried by the people who loved them.

We remember without judgment. We speak their names without shame. We work toward a future where fewer families experience this loss.

“Still needed” reflects a shared global truth: overdose continues to affect people from every walk of life. Behind every statistic is a person – someone once loved and valued. And behind every loss is a ripple felt by families, friends, and communities everywhere.

It also points to something else – something hopeful. Overdose is preventable. We know what works. From timely access to care and support, to education, to life-saving interventions, there are proven ways to reduce harm and save lives. Yet too often, these solutions are not fully seen, shared, or embraced.

This year’s theme honors the dedication of those who have carried this work forward over 25 years, while inviting more people into the conversation. It calls on all of us – across cultures, professions, and communities – to keep learning, to speak openly, and to act with compassion and on evidence.

Because while this day is still needed, it doesn’t have to be forever. Together, we can create a future where fewer lives are lost, where support is within reach for everyone, and where one day this global moment of remembrance is no longer necessary.

Until then, we remember. We act. And we continue – together.

💜 **25 Years On. Still Needed.**

International Overdose Awareness Day is on Monday, August 31, but United Services will continue to build awareness throughout the coming week.

Together, we will honor those lost to overdose, promote hope and recovery, share overdose-prevention resources, and encourage conversations that help break stigma.

Visit our Mansfield or Dayville sites to learn more. Wear purple or place a purple light outside your home or business.

Supporting a loved one through substance use, addiction, or recovery can feel overwhelming—but you do not have to navigate it alone.

The **Allies for Recovery Group** offers families and supporters a welcoming place for confidential conversation, education, healthy coping skills, and connection with others who understand. The group is open to the public and meets on Mondays from 5–6 p.m. at United Services, Room 214, 140 North Frontage Road in Mansfield.

Please share this information with anyone who may benefit. Hope, healing, and connection are possible.
